19' Wheels Problem

I just changed the rims on my 2002 S430 from the stock 16' wheels to 19' Brabus Mono VI's. I used the Brabus spacers for the front and no spacers in the back per Brabus. I also used the Brabus lugnuts. After the install my car started making creaking sounds. Usually when I brake and right before I come to a stop. Also when I make slow turns or go over slight bumps. Does anybody know what could cause this?
When driving on the freeway I have also noticed a "wind type" whistling noise. Could this be caused by the spokes of the Brabus Mono VI's? Has anybody else experienced this?
There have been a few occasions where the tires have rubbed. I live in So. CA were the roads are pretty bad. Its amazing how the most expensive areas have the worst roads and street lighting. But anyways one of our freeways is built on a landfill and has wave like dips in it. Everytime I pass over these dips around 65MPH the tire rubs. Is there anything that can be done about this?
I am running Michellin Pilot Sport PS2's 245/40ZR 19 in the front and 275/35ZR19 in the back. I was told that these are the best tires as far as minimal road noise is concerned.
Thanks for any help on this matter...

I have found that the Pilots very noisey compared to the Goodyear F1's that the tirerack recommended. Rememeber any performance tire will be louder than the stock all season tires. As for the rubbing I would check the off set on the rear's. I run AMG wheels with 275 rears and have never had them rub, the roads in the Midwest are certainly worse than those in So Cal.

Worse than So. California??? You guys must need 4 X 4's then . Next time around I will give the Goodyear's a try, hopefully that won't be too soon.

tires

Hey jetman,

Try toyo proxes tr1's they are very cheap but very good tire for around 600 bucks for your setup. I am running a set om my S500 now and they also have a very aggressive tread.. for a couple of more bucks you can run the NITTO 555's... all of the hype on the pilots and goodyear is not even close to being worth the ridiculous price. believe me.

Call my buddy Devin at the WheelWarehouse.com in the OC in SOCAL.714-772-1281 x5104. They have the best prices on tires and wheels.....truly

Benzondubs,

Thanks for the info and contact information. I will give the Nitto's a try next time I need new tires. Too bad I didn't know this before spending $1,500 on the pilots.
BTW nice car. Love those rims, what kind are they? Did you change the tail lights or is yours a 2003 +. Reason why I'm asking is because I want to change my '02 tail lights but all the ones on Ebay are aftermaket and I didn't know if there is a big difference in quality compared to OEM Mercedes lights.

Yes! Snow salt/sand & 100 degree days make for rough roads. If So. Cal. had snow the roads would be similar. Yes all wheel drive from November to March.

be careful your stud bolts don't stick out further and thread into the disk deeper than the old wheels stud did. you may be ruining your brakes!

good looking ride,

IM not sure what to tell you, i have noticed that some 19" tires are worse than others on noise. Its more of a random noise than tire sound, at least it was when i went to 19's on a clk.

As far as the rub, some tires are a little bit taller or wider than others. I cant remember the correct size becuase i sold my car in 02, but for example lest say i had 245 /30/19 Good years up front. The car would only rub at speeds above 80 mph. So after getting a cut from the finder on the top of the side wall i went to 245/30/19 Nitto tire and the rub went a ways. When you get the lowered big tire combo going there will be problem every now and then

As for as the clanking noise i had that with my spacers as well. i would retighten the studs to double check that nothing has come loose. Also you might want to pull the tire off and put some white litheruim (sp) grease on the side of the spacer that goes to the car ( not the wheel) I found on mine after about a year they had rusted / stuck together and it was almost impossiable to get off. Not sure how the brabus set up is though.

I have Pirelli P-Zero Rossos on my 19"s, and the road noise is almost non existent. I do get some rubbing when I hit speed bumps or dips in the road....I've been told the problem is my airmatic suspension system, and not the tires or wheel size.

You like running the Nitto's? On a Evo straight 8 they were one of the worst tires I had ever seen (beside my Michelin Energy's... lol).

The Michelin PS2's are worth the money, you can ask anyone in the AMG forums.

yea i love the nittos, i ran the 555 extremes. the tires are kinda strange. It takes a few miles before they work right. also price wise you cant beat them. I run my cars hard. tires on cars last 10-15K miles with proper rotation. I get 18-22K on my suv tires. So i would much rather pay $150 ish for nittos a tire than $300 ish for other brands.

Ahhhh...... A wise man speaks. I just replaced My Nittos with the new (same company)Toyo Tr1 and they are very cool and cheaper.. new and very aggressive tread design.

if you don't use the spacer in the back, you probably have to use shorter bolts...that's what brabus told me.

Go with the shorter bolts, Try to avoid spacers if possible, no more than a 3 ml.

Thumbs up benzondubz

beautiful ride benzondubz. I'm jealouos bro...I too wanted 4" lip but Asanti say I can't on my CL... very disappointed. The rims you have on was one of my choice, are they Axi, it make the car looks wide and tough. I agree with you on the Nitto Extreme 555, I have them on my CL and they ride very well.

Jetman, I'm having the same exact problem like you and I'm running 20's on my CL. Everytime I go over dips on the freeway my backend rubbs some dips will cause it and some does not. benzondubz suggested a shop where they can solve the problem so hopefully they can do somethig for me it is call Shoreline. Good luck with your...I don't think you will have much problem then mine.

Please apdesign ... I would not go that far.. You have one of best looking CL's on the road and your rims really look great.. Yes my wheels are Axis. I love the Nittos but had to run The Toyo tr1's because they have a more rounded track and they are less expensive.. Nitto and Toyo are the same Manufacturer. If you have a really low car the Toyo tr1 is the tire
