iPOD integration into 2006 S430
This question was asked back in Sep with no responses. Can the iPOD be intergrated into a 2006 S430 like in the newer ML/R class cars? I would like the iPOD in the glove compartment and to be visible in the display in the dash (not COMAND) and work with the buttons on the steering wheel.
Can the talked-about iPOD adapter to be available from MB be used on the new S430? If so, does anyone know the cost of the unit and labor?
Thanks

I bought a 2005 S500 recently - and disappointingly, the Mercedes iPod integration kit is not available for my car. In addition, there is no auxiliary input for the Siemens COMAND unit. Your '06 is likely very similar (I would love to be proved wrong, believe me!)
Miroj has pointed out the existence of the new digital TV tuner for 2003 and later S500 (and other) models at http://forums.mbnz.org/forums/forums...id=36#M1600928 - It would seem that the tuner audio input could be used with the iPod (and I have wondered whether the iPod screen could be displayed through the tuner output for iPod models having video output - like the iPod Photo).
Big Sis (sister of Steve at MBenzNL) indicates that the Siemens units can utilize the tuners (I don't know if this is for Euro spec, U.S. or both). See https://mbworld.org/forums/audio-electronics/122754-aux-addition-2005-cl.html

Yes on the '06
While waiting for my car to be serviced on Thursday, I was chatting w/ a salesman-friend of mine and he said that you could get the 2006 MB w/ iPod, but it had to be special-ordered from the factory.
My CD changer went out after six years and I had to pay $609 to get it replaced. It was very annoying to pay that much (anything...) for that old technology when DVDs, MP3s, and iPods are out there. Bummer...

I didn't press him for details, but I had the impression that it would be factory-installed. However, I wouldn't be surprised if it were dealer-installed, but I have a feeling that there is some sort of factory-modification that needed to occure for it to be installed stateside.

I went through the new brochure last night and there is no mention of iPOD compatibility anywhere. I get the feeling it cannot be done with the iPOD Kit being made available for the new R/ML and others.
