Comand Upgrade

Hi does anyone no if it is possible to upgrade my factory fitted 2.5 Comand to the one in the picture. My new Sat Nav is A220 827 4142 and the old one is A220 820 4689. I have seen this unit in the latest W220's but there is only one plug in the back and there does not seem to be a place to insert a CD/DVD. I would love to get more info/wiring diagram for the new Comand. Please can someone help me

that unit you have is a MOST based unit and I presume you have the older comand 2.5 which is d2b based. To convert to the new system you will require a new Instrument Cluster, steering wheel control, Amplifier, some harnesses, cd changer, phone system, teleaid system. I have done the conversion in my C class to the style system already. I would suggest you get a 2003 widescreen d2b based system which should be a direct swap.

there is concealed cd/dvd slot in the comand. If you press eject button (arrow pointing up) the screen will slide up and you will be able to access the slot (it is behind the screen). besides that, there should be cd/dvd nav module in the trunk.

I am really confused now. If as vladsf says the dvd\cd unit is behind the screen then what is this DVD Navigator used for. I have been doing some more investigations and it is mounted beside the cd changer in the boot. Please can someone shed some light on this Please

Even with power the MOST navigation will not operate without a fibre optic loop and several devices attached as that is what is stored in the memory of the nav head unit.

There are 3 types of navigation for s-class.

COMAND 2.5
COMAND widscreen 2003
COMAND DVD MOST 2004 +

The systems do not interchange in any way. Steve already tried it several years ago.

The unit above is where you insert the Navigation DVD to load the NAV program. The changer next to it is for loading the CD's into the magazine.

The slot that appears when you touch the "eject" button on the dash unit is for a single CD/DVD disk. It is not used to load the DVD NAV information into the system.

Thanks guys for all the info i have just noticed it also has a Cassette player hidden behind the screen. If the unit is setup correctly will the head unit play DVD's? or is the unit behind the screen just CD based.

The big question is if i buy all the bits will it be possible to install into a 1999/2000 S-Class ? and am i correct in saying i will need the following to do this installation:-

1. New Cluster.
2. Steering wheel control unit.
3. Amplifier.
4. DVD Navigator.
5. Some kind of new wiring loom.

Have i missed anything out and does anyone know the part numbers. Mine is a Euro Model

I would like to install this later Sat Nav if possible as apposed to the 2003 Sat Nav.

I think you should heed the advice of Sunman and do an upgrade to the 2003 unit. You are looking at major installs and money to go to the 2004 MOST system if it is even possible.

BTW, the latest dash player is CD/DVD.

Well Steve is trying to get it working again, the Comand widescreen 2003 to integrate into 2000-2002 w220's.
He told me a month ago he's very close to perfecting it, the problem lies w/earlier 2000 models they have slightly different wiring than the 01-02 w220's
So let's hope Steve can work his MAGIC!

There's a guy local to me in UK he has been doing this for some time. His feedback is 100% so he must be OK Here's a link: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mercedes-S-Cla...QQcmdZViewItem

What i want to know even at great expense is it possible to put the later model into a W220.

Ask your friend..if he has been doing it then he should know in detail what is required to do the job.

Man....Anything is possible! it's all a question of how much money you want to spend....
My local dealership said it was impossible to do any of the 2006 mods to my car, guess what they don't know dic....You can pretty much re-wire your whole w220 and turn it into a 2006 in you'd want to waste a lot of dough...

Thanks guys for all your help. I'm begining to think it just isn't worth it. Maybe i should just buy a 2003 Sat Nav, from what i can gather on the internet is this is just plug and play althought i think it will need reprogramming.

Not at all...I spoke w/Steve K. master installer from europe, it hasn't yet been perfected for the later 2000 models....It's gonna happen but probably not for a couple more months of testing....None of the widescreen 16/9 are plug and play for w220 -00-02 models, They need multiple changes in the Cambus, steering wheel controls ect..to properly integrate...

I think you will find he is probably working on the latest Comand (MOST) as i know for a fact that there are quite a few comanys installing the 2003 16:9 Comand into Sept 1999 onwards cars. Maybe there is a difference between USA and Euro MB's. If you like i can post at least 3 that give you total intergration with Cluster Comand without having to change them. So you see i wanted to go a stage further and install very latest MOST model.

I hear you but I'm only going on what Steve K. told me, 1999-2000 are not 100% figured out yet w/16/9 widesscreen, yes you can swap 01-02 to widescreen but it still isn't a plug n' play deal....None are compatible w/latest most 2004 version on up...Unless as we've allready said "Drop a boat load of cash re-doing everything"

Maybe these people have not done any 1999 W220's. I will make some investigations and let you all know. Thanks again for all the info.

if you want to install a 2005 MOST based nav system in a 2001-2004 S class, you will require at a minimum the following

1. New Comand Unit
2. Nav Drive
3. New fiber optic cable
4. new instrument cluster. You CANNOT buy a used cluster and reuse it
5. New airbag/steering wheel controls
6. Audio Gateway/Amplifier
7. Harness for speakers
8. Telephone Harness
9. Telephone PSE (if you have)
10. Cd Changer
11. Teleaid module (if you want)
12. Voice control unit
13. Center column voice control switch

since I have not mostified a S class before, the above is just a minimum if what is needed. If you have a 2001-2003 S class, I would suggest a wide screen d2b based comand unit and new wood trim panel. Using a wide screen nav in 2000 model year has a problem with steering wheel controls as the button layout on 2000 S class is not like other cars.

I now have a Comand 2.0

Hi Folks and thanks for all your previous help. I now have a comand 2.0 unit and want to replace it with my old comand 2.5. My main problem is there is an extra plug on my wiring loom that use to plug into the comand 2.5 but there is no place to plug it into Comand 2.0. Can anyone give me some advise on what i need to do to upgrade. What is this extra plug on wiring loom used for ?

I now have 3 comands. Origanal Comand 2.5, MOST 16:9 Comand and finaly new B2B Comand 2.0 16:9.
I think i will have to try and sell some of them
