Any way to add electric trunk close?
Our '04 S500 has electric release but closing the trunk requires more effort than any vehicle that I have ever owned. (Why?) Is there an easy way to add the electric trunk close w/o re-inventing the wheel?

Unless you want to empty your wallet by buying actuators and welding them things on your ride, you are better off just staying with it as is. Does your car not have the vacuum assist? You can always get some lubricant (wd40) and just lube your joints and moving parts of the trunk mechanism. It will sure close smoother and easier. Just a thought.

I don't know...once you get it down to the latch position and make the first click, it closes with vacuum assist. The problem is getting it down to that point. It seems to have a strong spring action/resistance that is part of the auto open mechanism. You really have to pull down on the lid to get it to close. If you let go of the lid before it clicks in the latch, it will fly up and hit you if you don't get out of the way. Is this normal Is there a way to adjust this?
It's a minor thing to me but my wife has a neck/back issue and she has a hard time closing it.

I had the opposite problem: When I put a heavy chrome license plate frame on my trunk lid it caused the lid to only open part way. My dealer fixed it "easily" by moving the spring end to a different slot(?). There are two or three places along the edge of your trunk where the end of the springs hook on, if you know what I mean. It took three big guys to pull the spring back to the next slot, but the trunk now opens completely and closes easily.

The electronic trunk closer is a option that can be retrofitted in the s class. The unit itself is a fairly large unit since it is hydraluic. I would estimate about 2.5 grand in parts to install it but I may be a bit off. Most options are retrofittable on the S class which makes it a nice car to work on. Vacuum assist is also retrofittable which is not installed on all S classes worldwide.
