Extended warranty options?

Hi all...

I've got my eye on a very, very tempting '02 S600 that's just out of its warranty period. Having already done a fair bit of searching through the forums here, there seems to be a clear consensus that extended warranty coverage is mandatory for a W220.

I checked out www.warrantydirect.com, but they don't cover the S600. (Possibly because they've learned the hard way, I wonder?) I'll be calling my local MB USA dealer tomorrow to see what options they might suggest.

So, I guess I have two questions to the forum:

#1 - Does anyone know of any other decent options for covering one of these cars?

#2 - For those of you not under warranty coverage, what has your experience been like in terms of annual repair & maintainance costs? I'm prepared to spend a fair chunk on keeping up a car like this, but there's definitely a point beyond which I'd have to reconsider...

Thanks in advance for any help,

- Eric

Mercedes Benz E350 CDi Blue Efficiency
Eric,

My friend has purchased an S600 and I recommended the Merc Extended Warranty. I am not sure how it works in the States - but here not many companies would entertain the thought of placing a warranty behind such a complex car. However we did get an extended warranty after MB did an appraisal (£200) and then gave a tier2 warranty (because the car have covered over 60,000 miles) at a cost of £1100. Expensive? Well - the coil packs went on his car (apparently common on S600!) and the warranty covered the cost. This would have cost him £1298 should he have to pay. I have purchased an S500L, 2001, £1100 for the warranty - just had compressor changed (£700 worth!) I'll leave you to work it out - but good luck nevertheless!!
