60k service? 90k service? $250 for Service A?

Service A:
Hi everyone. My car is nearing 60k miles. I have a local mechanic who can do my oil change for around 80- 100 bucks (using all MBenz products oil & filters). I called the dealer and asked what was performed on Service A and was told basically an oil change and that it cost $250. Is there anything else i should have my mechanic do for service A? $250 is a little steep for just an oil change for service a. Even when we had our 5 series, oil changes were only 90 at the dealer.

60k service:
The dealer stated that my fuel filter, air filter, and spark plugs need to be replaced at 60k. IS there anything else? I asked if they had a recommended service guide but he said no.

90k service:
What needs to be done on this?

Any help or info is greatly appreciated

According to my manual... A service

All bulb and warning lights and reset FSS counter
Check torque of power steering damper line fittings
Engine oil and filter change
All fluid level check
Test battery
Check tire pressure

That's about it.

Your car's service manual should list the items done at each service. For "A" service, it's an oil & filter change, plus some inspections and topping off fluids (and resetting the counter for the inspections). For "B" service, they do "A" service and change your wiper blades, possibly the cabin air filter. At particular mileage intervals, certain items may be done other than just "A" or "B" service. Your car's service manual will tell you what these are. If you don't have one, you can order it through Mercedes or through an authorized Mercedes parts counter.

Your MB dealer has a sheet w/ all items on A and B, but at 60k there are an additional 15 or 20 things that you really should do. I think that every 60k has a special, additional, set of things that are a must if you want you car to last. I believe my 60k checkup cost a lot more than $250 when I had it done in June. I'll check the invoice and report back later w/ specifics.

Good information you posted; somewhere along the way there must be a coolant change, so maybe it's in the 60k service...

Here's the invoice summary

Well, here's the 60k service scoop directly from my invoice:

First of all they preformed what is called the "Factory Flex Service "B" which appears to be a super duper oil change that includes "LOF (lube, oil, filter??), rotate & balance, air filter, dust filter, w/w blades, fuel additive, and check car over" (a lot of stuff). The oil, filters, blades, etc., cost $187.19, but labor was $332.50!

Then they replaced all 16 spark plugs and related stuff, which cost $161.28, w/ labor again @ $332.50!

Then they replaced "in-line fuel filter (non ML)" and hose clamps @ $72.84 w/ labor at only(?) $76.00.

And then, for no charge, they sealed lower strip on all four doors, which was part of a Campaign, and provided me w/ a C-class car rental for one day.

Bottom Line:
o Labor = $741.00
o Parts = $421.31
o Misc. = $40.00?
o Taxes = $91.98

TOTAL = $1,294.29!!

Yea thats crazy, my dealership quoted me $700 for replacing the air filters, fuel filter, and spark plugs. then $250 for the oil filter and oil.

I ended up taking it to a very trusted mechanic and the total cost to me was $525. So i saved almost 50% but still used all the mercedes parts but saved a ton on labor

Congrats!

MB has standard labor charges that eat you alive. Next time I am going to try and negotiate for the labor.

labor is a crazy thing in mercedes. when my air compresor for suspension failed part was around 270 and the labor was 680 or something like that. plus they had my car for 9 days. just my 2 cents about labor

Has anyone ever successfully negotiated a lower-than-book labor-rate at their dealer?

There are exact mileages for these, and other, services: See your owner's manual for specifics. As I recall, the services on my car were in 10k mile increments. a at 10K, b at 20k, a at 30k, etc. And at 60k there was an expanded b service. Yours is probably similar.
