Angry COMAND not functioning properly

Hi. Very upset... I bought the 2003 version (16/9) of comand part# A2208205989, and i wanted to see how it works on my 2002 S500 (that has the 4/3 format nav unit, right ? So, i take the old one out, and start to plug the cables into the new one, one by one. At the end, i`m left with a longer plug extra, an extra wire with a tiny plug at the end, and i power up.

No audio, no CD recognition.

Then, i put my old one back, and after i plug everuthing back, as before, No audio, No CD recognition, and the nav doesn`t start and it gives an error.

Please help me with any sugestions, as i have no idea what happened.

Thanks. Very upset...

Red face

Did you not forget the D2B optical connectors?
Was the "old" comand a 2.5 version? It is a system of several components. The newer one is the 2.0 which is an integrated system.
My guess is that by taking the old unit out and back in again you lost the whole ID of the unit, and it may need to be initialized again by the MB diagnosis system, so the comand is identified, and all its components. But this is a guess only.
If you can read German check out this site.

I don`t think so...

Is the optical connector a 2 orange wire cable, with a wide plug at the end, that shows two LED lights, one white and the other red ? If thats the one, i pluged it correctly in it`s slot.

Is there no way for me to initialize the system, without going to the dealer ?

Thanks again

If the initialization is the problem, what I guess only, then there only the authorized dealer with the right hardware and software can do it.

I called them

And they told me that by me unplugging the old unit out is the most likely reason for the car not recognizing the nav systems, because it lost the codes that comunicate between the ECU and NAV syst. So, i scheduled myself for tomorrow morning and they said they`ll do it. We`ll see...

Lightbulb My fault

I figured out what the problem was. I didn`t plug in the connecting cable from the changer correctly, so i took it out, placed it correctly, and everything works as it`s suppose to. On the old one.

On the new Comand APS, it doesn`t go deep enough into the slot, and i don`t know how to get it in there. Any suggestions ?

Correction

I meant into the dash slot, phisically mounting the comand unit. Sorry for the misunderstanding

Go to Home Depot and buy a chop-saw, it'll widen the hole right out!

Sorry, that's terrible...

Seriously, I did a good bit of research and came to the conclusion that it was impossible, not only to physically mount it, but also becasue of the electronics. This was a while ago but I believe the new system is MOST based, whereas ours are D2B based. The CPU (CAN) in our cars cannot understand the newer system.

The real authority here would be SteveK (mbenzNL). Sunman is also well versed in this sort of endeavor....

Thanks for trying to help

I bought it for 400 USD, and it is D2B type, not MOST. It is the 2003 model, not 2004. Thanks for any suggestion
