W220 Airmatic

I have an 02 s430 and it has the airmatic warning light on, but when you turn the car on it goes up no problem and when you press the button for the car to rise it gives no problem and goes right up and stays. (tested to see if weight on the hood would bring it down and nothing it stayed strong, brought it to a specialist and he test the seals by spraying water to see if the front was leaking but nothing, he qouted $200 for something that needed to be done. wondering after reading these forums its the relay also any ideas?

I would recomend changing the relay and see what happens. Do it fast coz those relays tend to take the entire airmatic system with them if not replaced.

Kenstudios, since it seems that you are pretty educated on the topic of Airmatic, I am interested in changing out my relay before it ****s out my Airmatic on my MY2003 S500.

Can you give me some information:

What kind of relay is it?
Where do I buy it?
Where do I install it? (Picture would be nice)

I dont have the diagram but it's in the fuse box on the passenger (right) side engine compartment. It is the 1st relay (O) is for the air suspension and the second (N) is for the secondary air pump. Look on your manual and locate these relays.

Also with the 03 models you shouldn't have these airmatic problems so Oxygen, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

One of the other causes of Airmatic warnings is the height sensor attached to each wheel. If you take off the front wheels one at a time you will see a black box with a rod attached to it which articulates depending on what height the car is. This box is attached to the inner wing just towards the front of the car from the suspension strut. My car started giving airmatic warnings and wouldn't rise when you pressed the button. If the car was started everything would work normally including the rise button until the car was moved then the warning (malfunction) reappeared. Simply by wiggling the connection block to this sensor cured the malfunction. It first happened when it was raining, so have sprayed the connector with waterproof spray. Malfunction had never reoccured. It is worth checking these connections are patent, clean and dry. This may not be your problem but it is certainly worth investigation!

My car seems to have the same problem. The dealer changed a strut, leveling sensors, checked wireing for pinching(it was a problem on the E class) and the message still comes back sometimes.Since the car is under warranty im pushing them to take care of it but it looks like they are running out of ideas too.

I keep hearing about these situations where dealers "run out of ideas" and simply can not fix problems... does any one else think that it's rediculous?

I just asked a thread about the Lemon law.I am not sure about it but some member went back to the dealer 4 times with some bumping driver's seat and the dealer cant fix it so far,so he filed a lemon law complaint.
Doesnt necessary mean that it will go through but never hurts to try
My car is in as i write ...for the 3rd time.

It's hard for them to admit when they are wrong. They don't just say "they ran out of ideas", they just simply repair the wrong thing and have you pay for that then you'll come back and open another ticket with a totally unrelated issue. Welcome the the wolrd of stealerships.

This might sound simple but try disconnecting the battery for about 30 minutes...re-connect and see what happens. Won't cost you a dime.

airmatic fixed!!!..??? (hopefully)

The car had a malfunction reading on the right back side...Turns out that the problem was in the left front side (too low) and when i was doing a sharper lright turn, it just set off the back sensor (Thats what i was told and it makes sense )It usually took a few days for the "Visit workshop" sign to come back but everything looks good for now..

The MB part number is 0025421319 which crosses over to Bosch part No. 0986332040.

COMAND does not have a radio code. You don't need one. However, you may need to reset a number of items - for how, see post #14 at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/show...30#post2216730

You said that when you "turn the car on, it goes right up", does that mean that your car goes down (overnight)? Mine has never gone down. If your car does go down, sounds like a leak...or did I misunderstand?
I had my car on a rack, and when I took it down, it sat very low. I let it run for a while, but it didn't raise. I finally read the manual, pushed the "raise car button and it came back up.

If your car went down after a lift, it has a leak on the top of the strut. It should not go completely down and if you keep doing that, it will ruin the bellows inside the strut.

I'll be doing a few repairs in Seattle and i will try to take some pictures of the process so everyone gets an idea of what's involved for the repair.
