The carbon filters are under the glovebox in the passenger foot well. You need to remove the panelling under the glovebox to get to the heater area slide the cover off the filter housing (there are 2 of these) and remove filters.replace in the reverse order.

I am sorry, I attempted to follow the directions and seem to be at a loss. I have a 2001 S430, I removed the two screws directly under the glove compartment in the front passenger seat, and I was unable to remove the paneling. I was able to remove the mat, styrofoam, didn't think it was behind the aluminum plate. I didn't want to use force on a dark gray panel with some vents. Does it require force? Just 2 screws? Instructions mention slide? I noticed Bamberger 1 was a 2000 S320, does this make a difference?
I'm like Bamberger 1, I need some detail instructions or photos. lloyds or anyone? Thanks for any help.

I did it like Lloyd said. No problem. The panel which needs to be removed is the not even fixed by any screws. It is the panel which ends at the top of the carpet. It is just stuck into the panel right next to the lower part of the glove box, and two hooks in the middle of the panel. To get it off the hooks you need to pull towards you. No screws to be removed. Then you see the white brackets, slide them towards the front, you will see 2 latches (each filter one) to pull the filter inserts.

Thanks, I had to use some force to push and bend the cover. Removed and located the slide locks and remove cover and filters. As I was purchasing the charcoal filters, parts person showed me a diagram with two other pollen filters located behind glove box. I purchased and removed glove box, slided lock and removed cover, replaced two dirty pollen filters.
Thanks again, as I mentioned, great forum.

Pollen Filters
Open glove box; use stubby philips driver, two on top near opening, and two below near opening covered by oval plugs. The last mechnic must not have replaced my oval plugs on top. Carefully wiggle out, and disconnect wiring for the light, then cable for the latch, creating full access. Or you can let it hang. Slide white clip, and pull covering towards you. You should then see the filters lying flat side by side. Replace in reverse order. About a 5-8 minute process. Good luck.

Short stubby philips screwdriver and you should have no problem. The top two don't come with covers gman.too I guess Mercedes decided that as you cannot see the top screws normally then they don't need covering

Just pull it back towards you and it will come out, might need a bit of a twist. Once out remove the light wiring plug first and then the cable from the push button, which just lifts up, moves to the right and out. Reinstall in reverse order.
