Squeaking noise
I have a 03 S500 4 matic in the shop and they cant figure out the problem. I have squeaking noise coming when the car is warmed up and I hit the brakes at very low speed, from what I thought was the brake area in the front of my car. Took it to the dealer they originally thought it was the ball joints or the brakes and they are now saying its niether of those problems and they are having trouble diagnosing the problem. Anyone have an idea of what it could be??
Let me know whether and how they solved the problem for you. My '03 S430 has the same problem, the brakes squeek. I haven't brought it in for service for it. I have the S for 2 months now.

any opinion would be very helpful still have the problem but now its a high pitched scretching noise after about 10 minutes of driving. The noise becomes a constant screetch when i hit the gas pedal and when I hit the brakes it goes away but as long as the vehicle is moving I get that noise from the front wheel area any ideas guys . The stealerships obviously cant fix it so i am relying on some opinons . Its a 03 s500 4 matic

I would pull the pads, put on a new set ,paying attention to lube all caliper parts that need it carefully .Assuming enough meat left, turn the rotors, if not replace them;then drive the car gently on the brakes for the first 100 miles or so, to allow them to bed in.By the way, odds are its jst the fronts that are playing up, so do those first,but look at the rears at the same time, just in case.

Yeah, i though that's a posible too, was just trying to eliminate the obvious before getting into the AWD system.
Its so hard to diagnose a prob, without testing the car, but if its not a brake problem, it appears to be some kind of metal to metal bearing failiure.
Did they check the wheel bearings, I have had wierd noises at odd times from them in the past.
Then i guess that leaves the drive shafts ect, for the AWD system.

Ok heres the latest news , I got tired of the mercedes stealerships and took it to my independent shop. They did a 15 minute test drive and put it on a lift after and found the problem, its the front caliper its locked and wont let the wheel spin freely in affect its heating up alot and causing a piece of metal to slight bend and cause some rubbing which is making the squeaking noise. So now I have to wait until monday to get the caliper replaced. They also advised me that before I purchased the car someone changed all the brake pads and not the rotors so now I have some additional squeaking because of that?Could this cause additional squeaking any help on this one would help me know if i need to replace the brakes or is it not necessary?
Unless the rotors were badly won and below specs, that shouldn't cause the problem. Also, make sure that is what the problem really is. Some techs can just say anything to get your buck. Let them show you the problem that way you can say they are repairing something that is really wrong. I normally replace my rotors on every other brake job (atleast every 40K miles)
When you check, ensure there is even wear on all the rotors and no unusual indentions anywhere.
