remote only works if I stand behind trunk

Please help I have a 2001 s500 the remote stoped working if I tried locking or unlocking vehicle from drivers side. It would work if I went to rear of vehicle or pass. side. Now only works from rear. I know there are three sensors for remote. I could get it to work sometimes if I keep pressing button from drivers side. Is it a sensor in the door handle ? It seems wierd both drivers & pass. to go out at almost same time. But will work sometimes. Please help.

Ha ha.
Yup I agree Ken.
Its also the cheapest thing you will ever replace on a Benz.

It always pissed me off on the S remote fob ,just how close and accurate you have to be to get the damned thing to work, partic, if you are using the click twice and hold option to unlock all with all windows and s/roof down, every other car I have does it from a ways off.Infinity does it from inside the house.
By the way, any body ever install the start engine remote, seems like a big plus in extreme temps.

The "press twice or hold" features on MB remotes operate on IR signal which you have to point the thing to the remote eye on the door with no obstraction. You also have to be very close to the thing (that's the MB style - different) The lock/unlock features operate on RF signal which is not directional and you dont have to point the remote directly at the remote eye.

remote inopt.

I did replace the batteries 2 times in last month to make sure. The remote will work every time if I stand near pass. rear of car. I was told there was 3 sensors drivers & pass. door & trunk. I find it hard to believe that both drivers & pass. sensor went out. They will work sometimes.

Sometomes MB just sucks dont it

I mean I know they are great cars and all, but it is OK sometimes to admit they are designed and built like crap.

Thats what happens when America meets Germany. MBs had a good track record until that American company bought them. Well, the engine and tranny are still good and long lasting. The rest is just........................

HUH??...from my understanding it was the other way around, MB bought chrysler & MBs quality suffered because they were busy trying to build up the quality of chrysler

I dont know if it really had anything to do with the merger.
I think they just lowered their standards on quality control and content.
Plus, The one area where they always really needed to improve (Dealer Service) just got worse at the same time.
