Especially with the windows all the way down, I close the door (not even slamming it), and it sounds like I'm closing the door on an old Toyota Camry. The rear doors sound pretty solid and nice.

I've been around the W140s before. They feel more solid than the W220. Don't know why Mercedes decided to take it down a notch.

Well, let's just say every S-class was built solid except the W220. Cheap sounding doors, rattles, squeaks, it just feels like its a S-class falling apart.

My w220 sounds 100% solid when I close all the doors, not a hint of rattle at all. My only gripe is the boot - it sounds a little tinny when I close it.

A friend of mine had a CL500 and was unhappy with the thud of the doors, so took it to MB and made them pack them with insulation, made a big diff. Perhaps you should try that?

Well, Newton, if you just gently closed the doors and let the auto-shut do its job how could you tell?
Do you think about possible inane problems then drive around to see if you can re-produce them Newton,I dont want to appear rude, but man you have made the record amount of posts in this forum and most of them just boggle my mind.By the way before you jump all over me please read the dumb *** posts he puts upon here. You are too young to spend all your time on here, leave the car at home, take a cab , go out find a girl, get drunk and have sex.You can't be more than 20, go out and have some fun, then buy an Evo or Subie and have more fun. Leave the boring stuff to all us old farts in here.

In the UK you can get a free hearing test. Don't know about the US.

There is a remedy that works well with Chevys and Fords but I don't know about MBs since the doors are already lined with sound deadning insulation.

I seriously don't understand, I'm just here to share answers and ask questions. After all, this is W220 forum. If I have a problem with the car, I would like to be able to fix it. That's just me.

Why in the world would I take a cab to work everyday anyways? Costs would be ridiculous. If you would like, search up the details on my town, and you'll realize we don't have public transportation here. The S-class is my only mode of transportation to work, school etc. I don't have money for a Evo or Subaru (neither do I want one).

As for spending time on here, I'm on here most of the time at work during breaks. Why do you even care about my personal life?

I don't mind criticism, but talk to me through a PM first instead of going around stating how ridiculous my posts are (which I don't see how they are, but you are entitled to your opinions).

I didn't mean to offend anyone. I can shoot a video. I honestly don't like the sound and feel when the door closes.

RUST, on outer edge corner of door

Is this a common problem for this model ? 2002, right above the rubber weather stripping

Rear doors

My rear door rattle on close, I had the dealer replace the rear door ashtrays, b/c that were I detected a noise. Solved the problem for a couple of months but its came back

Add some Dynomat to the doors....?

My dad's friend's earlier (2000?) S430 didn't sound too cheap when the doors were shut. The trunk did sound a little light though.

On the three W220s I have/had they all sound/sounded fine. My mother-in-law tended to close the back doors too hard and they made a loud thud until I admonished her and showed her the soft close feature.

I guess the S430 is built different than than the S500 because I have none of your issues. Speak for yourself

Since you have aircon I'm not sure why you have the windows open. Certainly all car doors shut differently with the windows open. With the windows shut the door has to close against a cushion of air.

The doors never have sounded "cheap" when I close them. But then again, I close them partially, then let the auto-shut feature pull them in. I never close them hard.

I know what you mean, although I think they close with a much more solid sound than a Camry. My W140 was like closing the door on a bank vault--unbelievable feel of solidity. I really miss that car.

And, oddly enough the rear doors do have a tighter feel when closing.

Also, with the power closing feature, the W220 sounds like something is about to break--sounds too delicate or something. The W140, however, mad latching noises that sounded more solid.

There is a lot that I like about the W220, but it is not as solid as the W140.
