I still have the old key

The squarish one without a chrome star on the back. I want a new one. Are the ebay ones trustworthy? How much would it be if I ordered a OEM one and had it programmed? If its too much then I'll just stick with my old boring key. lol

Yes, I can't stand the pre-MY2001 keys... they are big and ugly.

Before 20 people below me repeat the same thing, let me tell you first.

The keys sold on eBay will NEVER work with the car.

Every key is programmed at the factory for your car's VIN number. When you get a spare key at the dealer, they order it from the factory and it comes programmed, they can not do anything at the dealership.

I think you will spend around $160+ at the dealer for a new key. You will need your title when you get one made.

I am not sure if the MY2000s are compatible with the new keys.

Yes, MY2000 are compatible with the new Keys. When i ordered the extra key from the dealer, I was expecting to get the old style key and to my surprise it is a new style key. It cost me $150 at manhattan MB.

When you go to the dealer, and you tell them you want an extra key, the computer will try to match up your VIN with the part number for the 2nd generation smartkey... you want the 3rd generation.

The guy who is ordering has to put in the part number for the new key... it will tell him it's incompatible with your VIN, but he has the option to "Continue Anyway" and the order will go through and they will code the 3rd generation key to your VIN... I bet the dealer will tell you that he holds no liability if the new key does not work.
