Exclamation slight blue smoke

Hey everyone,

recently i purchased a 2000 s430, love the car but sometimes when its cold outside i noticed recently it blows blue smoke for the first 5 sec upon starting. The car has about 65000 miles. Is this an indication that my engine is gonna begin burning oil?

I have read about blue smoke somewhere before. To my knowledge, it is NOT normal (white smoke in cold weather is normal). I'm not sure if its burning oil. Check the dipstick lately?

Blue smoke

Slight blue smoke on start up means, you should have your valve seals checked. After you turn your car off oil settles in the valvetrain, What happens is a small amount of oil is leaking past the valve seal and burning off in the combustion chamber when you start the car up, thats why it isn’t always burning up oil and emitting blue smoke.

either that or a ring could be leaking. check the compression on each cylinder also.

I love how you guys make it sound like it's as easy as filling up your tank with gas...

lol......

Your right! checking the compression on a truck is easy I do it all the time. I would never do this on my S Class.

remove each spark plug (do this one at a time) and use a compression guage.

Just when it took you 5 hours to fish out the sparkplugs, imagine hooking up a compressor gauge!

So when the gauge is hooked up, I assume the engine has to be turned over somehow?

The dealer told me my 2000 S430 was buring oil. The dealer said Mercedes would cover if I could show all of the proper oil changes were being made. I got the car at 89k and only had 1 year of history that I could find. The alternative was to pay for a desludge which would cost close to 10k. Said they couldn't tell exactly what the problem was until they took the engine apart and then the adjuster would have to come in and approve payment for only the defective part. Meanwhile I am paying for the labor to break it down and put it back together. I have just been checking the oil every week. I have to add 1 QT every month or so.
