Hi there. New here. My 04 S500 had a brake job done by the dealer once about 3 years ago due to an high pitch noise coming from the right rear brake. MB said it was safe and only to replace them as I insisted. Now the high pitch noise returns.

Anyone has similar issue or knows why? What is it to resolve this? I thought of replacing the brakes, but the rear brake has no punch out pin that I could see, unlike the posting photos. I appreciate any insights and help. Thanks

Akebono brake pads

First of all.....great instructions. Thanks for sharing the information.

I got a set of Akebono pads. The pads seem like come with the back metal plate but I am not sure if I should just dump the existing one and just use the one already on the pad or put the old plate on top of the new one.

Also, the instruction from Akebono indicates that there is a protective film on the noise insulator. I assume the noise insulator is the back plate but I don't see any protective film. Does anyone have any experience with these pads?

Thanks.

Top: Front Pad.
Lower left: plate remove from the new pad.
Lower right: old plate.

Rear Pad seems have a plate on it already.

FKONG777 - wow. This was a great diy write up. I recently replaced my rear brake pads on my 2000 S430 and after about a month I started get a brake lining sensor warning. I have to believe these are the front brakes that are worn since there is no way for the rears to be down in a month. I was wondering if the front are as simple as the rear and with your help I'm set to go. I don't know why you mentioned to open the brake fluid container since I've always heard to not allow air in the system for fear of humidity. But, I imagine there has to be good reason for it. Possibly some overflow from moving the calipers. At any rate, thank you. This forum has been super helpful to me and saved me lots of money versus taking it to get hosed at the dealerships! Hats off to you mister. Thanks

2004 S600
2004 S600. Forgot which 2 brake pads get the sensors. Was it one front and one rear and on which side, or both in front?
