MB Warranty extension on Instrument Cluster.

Look in the mail for a letter from MB-USA. I just received one that extends the factory warranty to 10 years (regardless of miles) on the Instrument Cluster for MY'00-MY'06.

It's for S and CLS class.

Yup, just got mine.

I can't believe they're also doing it for the newer models too.

I received mine today as well. I am curious about one thing. Is the definition of the Instrument Cluster spelled out anywhere?

I'm guessing any sort of failure with it? I've read some instrument clusters that have failed here, gauges not registering, not operating, etc.

One time on our S500, the cluster just stopped working. I had turned on the AC unit and the cluster died...it just shut off. Car was fine, cluster was dead, no lights, no power. After shutting the car off and turning it back on, it was fine again. Hasn't happened since, this was about 2 years ago.

Anyone know if this applies in UK as well? I have heard nothing -yet. Hard to see why it should apply in UK too.

My cluster went out just over a year ago and had to be totally replaced at a cost of £800. The dealer (Bristol)checked with MB and definitely no recall in UK.

I since have checked with MB Norwich, and they confirm this.

I got mine the other day. Does it include the CRT in COMAND?

Remember if you've had this failure in the past and it was repaired out of pocket you can get a refund.

Repair refund

According to the letter I received from MB-USA. They state to contact the dealer where you got the repair work done to get the refund. If you had it fixed anywhere other than a authorized MB repair facility, you'll be eating the cost for the repair and not getting a refund.

I got a full refund of over $1600 from the dealer where my work was performed on my 2001 s430. Also got the letter about the 10-year warranty, so if it goes out again, I guess I'm covered.

On another forum, it says some have had letter from MB saying recall in UK and telling them to go to dealers. Here's the link

Yes but heard from an insider in Mercedes that in UK it is just 3 faulty batches so recall not by any particular age or model but by VIN numbers.

For those who subscribed to this thread, I received a letter sometimes last week saying that the gauge cluster is now a safety recall rather than a warranty extension like our UK members.
Just a heads up

Always nice to get a letter telling you that your $115K new car is going to fail but we will fix it for free since we made it poorly
This is why I will be trying out a Maserati Quatroporte.
MB keeps getting worse every year, once a car for those who wanted the best, now a car for anyone that can sign a lease form.
Mass produced junk with all kinds of problems.

Can confirm that MB have paid out retrospectively, money gratefully received, and some faith restored.
