even aftermarket warranty insurance will cover damages to internal lubricated parts. Warranty should definitely cover this.

This is were a good extended warranty comes in. Some will say that EWs are not worth it. You do the math.

Good luck

Mark

I've said in the past over and over. People buy these cars without doing their homework then end up with issues that cost way out of range after which they start bashing MB for making bad cars. I'm not saying 2002S600MB is one of them but I'm using this as example of what I always say. Just because they are now cheap doesnt mean the repairs are cheap. Do your homework before buying MB. Thats all I'm saying.

ur right people need to take this into consideration before buying a mercedes. they need to realize that to keep these luxury cars up and going its going to be expensive to maintain no matter what.

In my case, the S430 was passed down to me, so I never bought it.

Making the money I do now, I'm having one hell of a time maintaining this heap.

Be aware of wty. companies. They tend to come and go. I went with one that was highly recommended by a Range Rover Club. A year later after I paid for a 3 year deal, it went bankrupt.

One might be better off tucking away a few hundred/month in a ING account and using it when problems crop up. At least you're earning 4.5%.

Then again, if you're worried about maintaining a $100k+ MSRP car, then it ain't for you.

I was just looking into one for my 1996 Range Rover from warrant4wheels.
I decided to skip it.

I read where one guy said that the "12-bangers" were very expensive to maintain. This was in response to an example shown by someone else of a 2003 S600 that was on eBay for an asking price of less than $50,000. I think he said MSRP was $140,000 and was wondering what must be wrong with that car(?). The eBayer had bought it used, so a 4 yo car was about to have a 3rd owner already. By the way, somone did buy it.

There's a lot of them out there. A few good ones, "AAA" comes to mind. My local MB stealer recommends/works with one, but the name escapes me. It's a gamble -- hell, it's insurance!

he Car was and is not cheep i have had the car for 4 years and have maintained it only at the dealer and love the car, before this i have spent more than 5,000 maintaining the car, i just spent 10K on the car because of a 2k oil sending unit did 10k of dammage. the car only has 29k miles on it. just for spark plugs is 400 so i know how much it is to maintain. i still would do it all over ie buy the car it is alot better than the 7 new bmw 7's i have driven over the years, but i will lease and keep a car that has factory warranty,

I hate to be the to say say this, but you must be crazy...

10K for an oil sending unit?? you got ripped!! you could have replaced your motor ( which is probably what it needed ) for less than that.

besides that, oil sending unit do not cause engine damage, running the car out of oil does. Your car had 25K miles on it and it ran low enough on oil to cause engine damage between services means 1 or 2 things. 1. you got a major oil leak that was ignored, and, or 2. whomever serviced your car F%^$ed up. in which case since it was the dealer, I would have certainly had an investigation before I volunteered another 10K to repair my engine.

Cars don't loose 10Quarts of oil in 10K miles.. when they only have 25K miles on them. So I see why it was not covered. Seems fishy to me.

This is not a good example of why people should get extended warranty's this is a good example of dealers and shops being able to tell the typical customer just about anything and they will go for it without even blinking because they just don't know any better.

BTW. High end spark plugs are less than $10 each. do the math.

Sorry to ride your azzz on this, but I am a technician for 20+ years and this is just not acceptable to me.

I agree with the above poster. Something isn't right here and the dealer is making out big time. I bet a new motor for the S600 retail would run $8,000 easy without labor to put in the car and take the old one out. I would demand a list of parts they replaced and if NEW MOTOR doesn't show up, I would get pissed. Plus, I would ask for the old parts back since you paid for them.

An oil sending unit is a part that sends the computer your oil pressure. In other words, it is the part that does the physical job of monitoring your oil pressure.

I would call MB USA and go nucleaur on someone and raise hell.
