Tele Aide Analog dead after 12/31/07
Here is information for those of us with Tele Aid subsriptions on '00~'05 cars. Our systems are set up for analog telephone service to Tele Aid. After the end of this year analog cell phone transmissions will not be allowed by the FCC.
It is my opinion that MBUSA should offer all Tele Aid subscribers a FREE upgrade to the current digital system for our '05 and earlier cars with the analog system. I know my car will still be under the original factory warranty when the analog system becomes obsolete. I wonder how MBUSA will handle the repair/replacement of this equipment? All thoughts and comments are welcome.

I know you specifically mentioned 00-05, but I wonder if my 06 is in the same boat? I have never used the thing, but I just renewed my subscription for another year.

OK...here's the deal. Cellular can be analog or digital. Digital is the preferred technology and was adopted for the Tele Aid systems in Mercedes Benz during the '05 US model year. Cell phones went through this change in '02~'03 and now all wireless phones in the US are digital. There is a retrofit kit that MB sells for about $1500 installed that converts to the new digital system. I think if you subscribe to Tele Aid that the conversion should be offered at no cost to pre digital vehicles. My wife uses Tele Aid often and feels secure in knowing that help for routing and road side assistance is just a button push away.

When I first got my E-class I used to use the tele aid all the time. In the past two years, because the analogue service is so horrible I can barely hear the rep on the other end. Of course sometimes it comes in clearly and it has helped out with driving directions on a few occassions.
Is there going to be a retro-kit available for all cars or just certain ones? I received the letter stating my service was going to be cancelled this year and thanking me for being a customer.
