W220 S65 AMG
Sorry... I had to do it. Could not resist.

Traded it for a 2004 S500 SPORT 4MATIC w/ 19K Miles. Includes Keyless Go, AMG Body, AMG Wheels, Heated/Ventilated Front & Back Seats. Brilliant Silver on Charcoal.

They guy said no staggered rims on the 4MATIC - true/false and why?

The one thing I did not like were the cheap looking calipers on the front wheels, why don't they look like my current ones with the Mercedes-Benz written on them?

By the way, I must say Mercedes of Manhattan's CPO department was fabulous, great salesman and great service. They also gave me $5500 MORE for my trade than Ralley Motors (Roslyn) offered.

I told the guy about the Brabus mods and he said he could give a **** less, because the car will be on his lot for 30 hours and then they will dump it to some cheesy non-Mercedes dealer on Queens Blvd (LOL )

If everything works out with my credit I can swap them on Monday!

Car looks just like this, with the same AMG rims as this one, except mine is Brilliant Silver and is an S500...

2005 S500 4-Matic, 1978 450SL
Your 4-Matic is always engaged. The front and rear axles are linked through front and rear drive shafts (sometimes called propeller shafts) that are in turn linked (via gears) just behind the transmission. If your wheels are different sizes front and back, the wheels (and axles) will constantly rotate at different speeds and wear out the the CV joints prematurely, in addition to possibly stressing the transmission unnecessarily. The CV joints are designed to handle some of this in turns, and some necessary differential rotation between front & rear, but not to be constantly working against one another under high stress.

That's one reason why you never want to have the car towed by lifting only its front end (not that you ever want it towed anyway). Oxygen, you posted a pretty neat diagram of 4-Matic a short time ago at https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...hlight=4-Matic - follow the blue highlighted linkages in that diagram and you'll see what I'm talking about. You would especially stress the CV joint (yellow in your diagram) that is just behind the front differential - and possibly others. When a similar joint would go on my Audis, it was over $1200 to replace - 15 years ago! That was because Audi insisted on replacing the entire shaft, not just the joint - but you just KNOW Mercedes isn't going to give us a break!

Congrats - sounds like a neat car - and you will love the 4-Matic. Hope yours got the lower center grille included in the price!

I'm not sure what the **** is going on now... all these banks giving me problems with credit because of the value of the old car versus the new car it's a whole big mess... one bank approved it but with 17% INTEREST!!!

No one ever wants to give me loans because I am 20 years old, meanwhile I have almost a perfect credit score...

At 17% you'll be better off charging the car on a credit card. Thats insane. Have you tried Capital one? What's in your wallet? As for the value, it's the W221 thing doing that.

That's what I figured... There is NO WAY you could come out right by trading a 2003 S in on a 2004.
The problem is not the value of your old car versus the new,, The problem is the amount it negative equity the dealer is trying to stick you for by adding it to the price of the 2004 which is probably already at high book which will leave you waaay upside down the moment you sign for it. That's why the banks are giving you a hard time. Look at the total amount you are financing, and compare that to the KBB or NADA retail value of your 2004 car minus about 10 to15% and you will see where the problem is.

PLUS.. Something else to note... The S500 with the AMG Sports PAckage came with BIG BRAKES and DRILLED ROTORS.. I have a 2004 430 with the same setup. (See PIC). Unless they did the 4-matics different, I'd be very skeptical of it's so called-amg sport package if it doesn't have the big brakes... You can put AMG wheels on anything that doesn't make it a package.

Maybe this is a sign to heed earlier posts and think this through a bit before making such a move ( I don't think its the greatest ).

All S430s and S500s come with drilled fronts. They're all the same size to my knowledge. I don't have MB lettering on my calipers though.

One thing I would suggest is maybe check out a credit union. I know it seems odd but sometimes they can offer a better rate.

That's because you didnt have the sport package,, and / or your car is a 2000 model.. 2004 it was a whole different story.. But something sounds fishy about his..having AMG sport package and normal calipers especially on an S500 in 2004. That's all I was saying..

Every S-Class, S430 or S500, comes with drilled front rotors. The one I am looking to buy does too, except it's calipers look cheaper than then one's you're showing, but I was explained by MB that the front calipers on the 4MATICS are different because of the AWD...

Plus you should know that, the "AMG Sports Package" just adds rims and the AMG body kit, nothing else is changed, especially not the brakes.

Oh okay so it's because of the 4-matic.. I still don't see why they could not have used the branded calipers,That's a silly reason...But MB does things like that all the time.
