Just purchased an '00 S430

New to this forum, I had been looking for a W210 E55 AMG, but I came across the S430 and felt it would better suit my needs... this is going to be a daily driver, replacing a Daewoo Leganza, alongside my supercharged NSX.

Here are pics, its an eBay car (*gasp*), I will be picking it up either Friday or Monday:

obligatory pic of the daewoo, and the nsx:

Thank you, I have heard some negative things about the early W220's, but I have a friend with a '00 S430, and he's up to 120k miles with very limited issue... I checked the carfax, and it shows consistant service history on this S430, it was even sold as CPO not that long ago.

I drove three local cars, all W210 E55's... It's something of a 'disconnected E39 M5' feel, if that makes any sense. fwiw, I also tossed a few lowball offers to some E55's, but the car is commanding a premium, even with bad examples with no service history.

I have my nsx for going fast in, I was after more of a 'freeway boat', now that I get to attack the 405 to the tune of 70 miles/day.

I have had the nsx approx 2 years now, it's up to 350rwhp and 290rwtq, but I will be removing the supercharger in favor of a single turbo next month... going for a flatter 400rwhp figure.

S430 is a great vehicle. More space and better ride. Even though the E55 has more power but its still a great car. Enjoy

The S looks nice and decently loaded. I think you will be happy with it. At least it has some nice shoes

Hey welcome. I'm also have a nsx. I believe you are a regular "prime"-er like me. I also have a 2002 S430 and 2000 ML55. I like that sport package you have.. My S430 is a standard package but I have 19" staggered wheels.

I was bidding on your E55, listed as a Pontiac, right? with 70k miles?

It looks like you got a deal, I wasn't online to place a bid.

I live in Laguna Hills, and commute 70 miles/day to CSULB for school... I was amazed I could buy a complete car for the price of an exhaust, and I thought I would be fine with using the daewoo as a beater, but its getting a bit annoying driving the Leganza 2 hours a day, my reason for buying the W220.

The Benz is my 'college beater'

Nice S430!! Like the wheels! Interior is super. Of course I like the silver exterior (mine is the same).

I note that the hood ornament has been replaced with a flat badge, without changing out the grille for one with a star. It's all a matter of preference, no more - but the original sedan would have had the raised star hood ornament. Sports models usually have no raised ornament, and have the grille star.

If you are of a mind to, Performance Auto Parts (a forum sponsor - see top of page) or any number of other suppliers can help with restoring the hood ornament or changing out the grille.
