Factory Warranty Questions?

Could someone explain me the factory warranty on the 2003-2004 S600 cars?
I believe they are 50K miles/ 5 years. so that 2003 with 49K miles car is still under factory warranty for 1K miles or untill Jan 08? How about extended warranty options, I heard that if the car has 50K or over miles , its not possible to get extended warranty from MB.

I see there is a big price different between Sclass cars with less than 50K and more than 50k miles. Is that because of the factory warranty ?

thanks

It's 5 years from original delivery date, which can be before or after Jan. 1. You need to know the specifics for that car. Yes, MB doesn't sell extended warranties after some period. I believe it's one year and to original owner only. Starmark (certified pre-owned) come with a 100K, one-year warranty extension with the option of buying a two or three-year extension. That's the only way to get a factory extended warranty on a used MB. With an S600 it's worth it's weight in plutonium, which is why Starmark cars are more expensive than most used Mercedes. Owning an MB V12 off warranty is like playing Russian roulette without the empty chamber.

The warranty on all new MB's is 4 years 50k. You can buy an extended warranty through MB while the vehicle is under warranty only. The warranty starts at the vehicle's "in service" date, which is when the car was officially. A car with an in service date of 3/28/03 would enjoy its last day of warranty tomorrow. Hope that makes it clear.

Yep, 4 year not 5. (Brain fart.) But they offer the extended warranties on all models, including V12s. Same terms within a year of buying a new car, or Starmark (which is 5 year -- 4+1) with or without one or two more years (to total of 7). Some third-party extended warranty companies won't sell for MB V12s and/or some AMG models, but the MB warranties are available for all models.

Thank you for the info.

So that 2004s have about 1 year more warranty on them and if purchased one, could get up to 3 years extention. And some late 2003s have still some months of warranty on them as well.

Im comfused with one thing. Could i get the warranty extended being the second or third owner for a 03 or 04 car? or the car has to be purchased from a MB dealer and CPO?

thanks

To get the MB warranty on a used car, you have to buy a Starmark car from an MB dealer. The warranty is really why you pay the Starmark premium. The exception is that if you buy a Starmark vehicle from a private party, the warranty transfers to you. But it has to be a private party sale. If a non-MB dealer tries to tell you there's a Starmark warranty that will transfer, it's BS.

ok i am looking at this 2004 S600 with 42xxx miles. I will be the second owner if i make the purchase( its a lease return car) i checked the carfax report it says it was delivered in late 2003( i cant remember the exact date but in december). the dealer is not a MB dealer.

what are my chances with this vehicle? can i get extended warranty from MB? the dealer says it has existing factory warranty? could this be possible? if yes, how long? and how late I can purchase the extended warranty?

thanks in advance

Chances with the vehicle? Not sure, but I'd say good since it's under warranty. It should be under warranty 4 yrs from your in service date, dec '07 according to you. This can be verified with MBUSA.

No, you can not get an ext. warranty from MB.

You can get a warranty from Chrylser which up until last week was DCX. I got a great deal from chryslerservicecontracts.com - michael 866-278-8823

Tell him Eric that just purchased an '04 S600 Max Care $0 deductable 3yr/ 70k mile contract sent ya.

YOU MUST purchase this contract before the original warranty expires.

Check the VMI too

The Vehicle Maintenance Inventory is a list of all the work that was done at MB to the car. It's available at MB dealerships.

Have you used your warranty at a MB dealer yet? Will they honor it? I bought my S600 two years ago with 44k on it. I tried thru MB dealership and thru the internet to find an extended warranty with no luck. The S600 is considered exotic for its v12. The dealer said the extended warranty must have been purchase by the original owner. If Substance can find one, go for it. Each trip for repairs cost 3, 6, or 900. I roughly about $4500 out of pocket for a 2 year period. Love the car, but hate the repair cost.

If you're asking me, no I haven't. I still have months left on the original warranty. I don't forsee any problems since it's a manufacturers warranty........... we'll see.

Fleet could just mean it was registered in a business name. I wouldn't get too concerned as it's still under warranty. I'd still ask the seller. Maybe you can trace who the original owner was or check the work done by talking to the servicing dealer.
