I cannot find anyone willing to remove the part so am forced to try it myself, I only hope that I follow your helpful hints correctly
I just joined forum.
I found this place as a result of my 2002 S500 getting stuck in park.
I am using the keeping the car in Neutral Until I can find someone to just take out that plastic nightmare piece for a good price.
I am in South Florida.
If anyone knows of a guy who is familiar with this procedure please let me know.
Once again, thanks guys!
Super Nice of you to help each other out like this!
Needless to say, I am not very happy about the way Mercedes has addressed, or should I say NOT addressed this problem.
Thanks!

Thanks again guys, you have been really helpfull!
Stop writing in all caps!!!
The "sensor" you are referring to is called the brake switch. Yes they go bad too, and cause the car not to come out of gear.
There is NO transmission lock on your car only the lever in your shift module.
Whomever told you all that crap about corroded locking pins must have a great big shade tree growing next to their shop and you should not have paid them so much attention that you want to share this bogus info with the forum as if....
I hope their impressive explanation didn't blur your wallet too bad.

PM me if you want to sell those rims.
I got a quote for $1020, which is higher than the $300 the FL shops are charging. Shop around.
Lastly, can I tie this problem to my Instrument cluster going bad (which is a recall item for my car)?
thanks in advance...
You probably can repair it yourself. The instructions as to how are in this thread. If you take it to any indy shop, DO NOT let them replace your whole shifter. $$$$$ and unnecessary. A dealer would probably not be permitted to simply replace the broken part. Sources for the part are also in this thread.
More information is available in the "W220 S-Class Owners Start Here" sticky at the top of the W220 forum. Look under "Transmission."
It is not related to your instrument cluster problem. You may want to see what the Encyclopedia has to say about that before you take it in for the cluster problem.

you can get a metal part from www.monoglobal.com.au Make sure you get the one with the right width. I've put one in, haven't driven it yet but it all works. the metal part may have a bit more of a rattle though as it is heavier.
