Angry My S turned into a paperweight today. (pics)

Today I was driving down the freeway when all of a sudden a metal giant box thing falls off a truck and sits on the freeway maybe 40 feet from my car.

Hitting my brakes I look right... concrete barrier... I look left... a line of cars... stop... Stop... STOP!!!... and BOOM my car strikes the metal object that at least weighed 50lbs.

Instantly sparks flew out in front and behind my car... smoke spewing out from the back. The dash lit up like a slot machine hitting a jackpot. And as the car was dragging the metal block I pull off the road until it got stuck in the gravel and I rolled over it as the engine shut off from some kind of failure.

Any ideas what this metal thing is? Anyways... I love my car... I hope it isn't too damaged.

The Bad news... $500 deductible and a 2hr wait for roadside assistance to get my location right... plus who knows how long till I have my S back (or in perfect condition).

The Good news... had my custom bar in the back of the car... even a highway trooper got a good laugh out of it as my wife and I had some vodka and waters waiting for help.

Because of my line of work... I am going to pull some strings and see if we can get a set of prints off the object... possibly isolate who it belongs to and find out how friendly they are when it comes to paying for damages.

I would have thought you live in Louisiana. That type of thing happens all the time around here. Injuries can be real serious for that type of incident.

Last year my E500 was damaged to about $3000 for same .

Truck never stopped. You can probably repair your car it will just take time and $$. Best of luck. Jim

Looks like a steel beam splice or attachment fitting. The truck driver was probably some *** hole that didn't secure the load properly. I'm guessing this thing belongs to a structural steel fabricator. Look for numbers or markings that might reveal where it originated. Thank God it didn't bounce up and come through the windshield.

Thanks...

It gutted the oil pan like it was butter. The pan looked to be made from 1/8th or 1/4th thick steal... and it cut down through a full foot of it... amazing.

Hopefully it is just the oil pan... the mechanic called and was obviously still in "triage mode" cause he was in disbelief:

Mechanic: "Do you have any idea what you hit?"
GTIG: "Open the trunk, it is in there"
Mechanic: "Good... sometimes it helps to see what hit the... HOLY $#!T!"
GTIG: "Yeah... watch your back lifting it out. hahaha"
Mechanic: "hahaha"
