Fuel gauge on my 04 S600 is completely off

So right before I filled the tank it was empty and almost flat a the R line, and the digital cluster said tank content was 0gals. So it was fine there. I filled it up and the gauge went to full mark. Which is fine. But I drove it 300miles and it was still sitting at full line, but the digital cluster was showing I only had 10ga left, good thing that car has that. I got the digital cluster down to 1ga and filled up, gauge was still a the 1/2 marker. I filled it up again, now the gauge is WAY past the 1/1 marker. Picture shows that. Totally messed up now. I dont understand how, since the digital cluster seems to be accurate and nothing wrong there, I would assume the analog gauge should tie into that same reading.

Anyone seen this before or know what causes it before I take it to the dealer?

That happened to my old 500 as well. Flat out on Empty, then I'd fill it and it would only show 3/4 tank, but as I drove the cluster would show the tank GAINING gas. I forget the name of the part, but my warranty took care of it.

I think its the fuel sending unit, but where Im confused is how come the digital cluster reads its as correct, would seem pointless for benz to put two different sending units, one for the digital cluster and one for the analog.

Ive noticed that since the 2nd fillup where its gone way past the 1/1 mark, its dropping as normal, except its shifted like 45degrees on its scale.

Tell me about it, it was even further. I thought when i took off from a light the speedo needle was actually going to hit it, wel seems like the speedo needle is higher and just went over it. Didnt hit it.

Hahaha, I was actually hoping it would and put it back on the right scale

Now just took it for a drive, and the gauge seems to be okay now. I have 11gal left according to the digital cluster and the analog shows 1/2 exactly. So looks god. I had put some Amsoil fuel system cleaner last tank, I will continue to do so till I empty out the Amsoil stuff. I had this happen before in my Z06, almost like fuel sending unit got a bit corroded or something.

I agree I have a few other things that need to be address, minor items so might as well tack this to the list.
