Trunk handle popout

My '04 S500 has the little handle above the license plate that pops out to use to close the trunk and then recesses. I do not have the automatic trunk closer.

The handle has come unsync'ed. It pops out *after* closing the trunk lid, stays out for 20 sec or so, then goes back.

Anyone know how to resyncrhonize it?

No, I don't. But if you could figure out how to get it to stick out that way when you were driving, it would be a great thing to have when you're being followed by a rude driver.

Seriously, I have posted information on doing a lot of syncs and resets, but haven't seen that one.

Funny I have the same issue with my 2004. I took it to the dealer in Georgetown and they could not resynch it. Hmmmm he said it was something with the handle itself.. I did not have time to look at it this weekend but I will find out and get back with you.

I have the same exact issue after installing a new PSE pump...were you able to resolve it?

Nope. Bought a new latch assy, and nothing. I'm just glad the thing goes back in. IT's pretty retared the way it works..I just ignore it. It's one of those "features" you only pay attention too when it pops put. They could have deleted that little nuisance and spent the time on a better trunk locking system. But I must admit, I do love the little chrome tongue that sticks out at me after I close my trunk.LOL

Nope. THey are actually broken down into two parts. The lock assy. and the latch assy. The lock assy is the part that has the keylock and the metal handle.

The latching assy has all of the vaccum cylinders and the latching mechanism attached to it. I trashed the old assembly a while ago.

Thanks for the reply. LOL on the "tongue" comment. The dealer I spoke to said they needed to hook the car up to the computer to resolve it. Not worth a special trip, so maybe next service.

FYI - the pump is for various models, etc. So, my local shop was able to find the setting in the computer and correct the trunk handle to work properly. It took more time to find the setting that to make the correction!

You might try resetting the PSE computer by removing the yellow 20-Amp fuse located behind the courtesy floor light that is behind the right-rear passenger's heels. Just pop the light assembly out, remove the yellow fuse, put it back in, and see if that helps.

The feature may be turned off, that is what can cause the handle not to come out and/ or retract when it is supposed to. To check the status of the feature (active of not) requires a STAR diagnostic system. Takes just a few moments to see if active or not. No other way that I know of to see if feature is enabled or not.
