my car stinks! I mean it smells real bad.
When ever i start my car up it stinks in the inside like a locker room. is it the carbon filter? is it a filter of some kind causing my s500 to smell? I cant take it anymore help please.

Ventilated seats might be the culprit
I have experienced stinky seats too. It was worst when I started up the car, and it turned out that standing body sweat odors, absorbed in the cushion over time, gets blown out of the seat, when the aircondition starts ventilating the seats.

Check this out...my fried had a rat and it's family living in the engine of her car. She had a smell as well and could not figure where it was coming from. She took her car into the dealers, when they popped the hood, they found the family. Since it was under warranty, everything got replaced. I had never heard of such a thing, but it's more common than not. Especially if you live in the hills. May want to take a look.....

If you have water in the car it will be under the front passenger carpet and maybe in the back of the car too.

This occurs mostly in humid climates "East Coast" the A/C Evaporators do not dry out, grow mold, bacteria and start to smell. This is a huge problem with BMW, but MB's suffer the same problem.
Typically you have the smell for the first few minutes you run the system then it goes away.

ive noticed that my car smells kind of like natural gas when i open up the door, specifially when or after it has rained...to be honest i dont think i have ever noticed the smell on a normal, sunny day...any ideas

You sure it is not your catalytic converters producing the odor?
