Lowered S430

Just finished the second phase of my process to lower my S430. I took the input from the forum to make my first crack at lowering the vehicle, but after about a two week evaluation period I realized that I needed to go lower. Well here's a few pictures of the finished product. Let me know what you think.

You should definately clear out your bumper lens like I Did. I Can't stand orange anywhere on the car! I even changed my orange turn signal bulb to a silver bulb that flashes blue when I turn.

Bumber Lens

Changing the bumber lens from orange to white is one of the many modifications that I have lined up. But, there's an obstacle that stands in my way, my wife. She is definitely not keen on the idea of modifying an 80+K car. She quite frequently lets me know, that why I have the C230 to make all the useless modification I want. It took an act of congress to get her to let me put rims and tires on the Navigator. I've got a list of modifications that I want to do, but I can't hit her over the head with them all at once. I'll feed them to her one at a time, maybe they'll be a little easier to swallow, lol.

Maybe if she knew that the current value of your car is ony in the mid to high 30's she'd change her mind.

Clear lenses are awesome... Here is pic of mine I think we have th same color..

The history behind this is (just amuse me for a minute), from 1998 to 2003 we had a 3 series BMW (mines) and a 5.0 Mustang (hers). In 2003 we added a addition to the family (our son) so she wanted something bigger. That led to trading the mustang for the S-Class, but during the purchase I noticed the C230 Kompressor (4dr Sedan), so I decided to also trade in my BMW. Since my BMW was customized I knew I would do the same with the C230. So I made the crutial mistake of designating the S430 as her car and the C230 as mine, especially since I had big plans for it. Well two years later (2005) she wanted an SUV (Navigotor), so immediately my thoughts were, great now I'll get to make some modification to the S430, "NOT." She still wanted to keep it stock, stating "Why pay that much for a car, just to spend additional money for modifications," and my selling point of "because it will look better," didn't fly over so well. So now here we are in 07 and she's finally decided to loosen the grip and let me make a few (limited) modifications. So you can see why I need to easy into this.

mugsy415,

She will notice the change in the lens, but I'm going to do it anyway (once their on its to late). What's the best place to order the lens from and is it something I can do myself?

my06clk,

I keep stressing that fact to her (the car has depreciated in value since our original purchase price), but she's stuck on the original sale price we paid in 03. The lens you and mugsy415 have definitely make a difference in the appearance of the vehicles. Both cars look great.

I guess I'm going to have to adopt the mentality of "Ask for forgiveness, not for permission." Wish me luck, if you don't see anymore post from me, you'll know it didn't go very well, lol.

I got mine from Ebay. You have to watch out for which ones you buy. I first bought a set that had a crystal clear look but the glue showed around the edges. I got pissed at the guy and cursed him out for even trying to sell so called "new junk" like that for any car none the less a benz. I looked real good at the auction picture and paid attention to the edges and you can EVEN see the glue. Make a long story short I got refunded and bought mines from an ebayer named "expresspart."
The only way to put them on is that you have to pop the whole molding out and then take out the lenses. I took it to a body shop they charged me 20 bucks. But he ripped me off thought it takes like 2 mins to do if you know were to pop the molding at and if you have the right tool. Definately worth it though. I cant stand the orange look on the body. I'm trying to find smoked W221 style lights (blacked out insted of red with the white stripes) so far I havnt been able to find them yet so I might just settle for the w221 upgrade and might have the red part of the lenses sprayed.

mugsy415,

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. That blacked out look on the rear lights will be hot!!!! You guys with all these great ideas are going to get me killed, especially if I'm trying to hang with the big boys, lol. Later.
