OEM Rotors/ Aftermarket Ceramic Pads...Time For New Front Brakes.

I need new front brakes and rotors bad, i was thinking of buying oem rotors from the dealer at 148 a piece, and aftermarket Ceramic brake pads, at like advance or autozone, what kind of brake pads do you guys recommend, and will they work well with oem rotors, The Pads they sell at the dealer on not ceramic and they release too much brake dust.

I just bought a new set of Axxis Deluxe from R1 concepts ($115/shipped for front and rear). From what I know, this offer the best of both: good bite & low (almost none) dust, and they don't wear out rotor. They're the same as the PBR Deluxe that I've used on all my previous cars (all Benz) w/ great success.

I think R1 also have rotor for probably $200-300 (front + rear).

The OEM brake pad on my car have less than 5K mile on them, but I'm replacing them regardless, getting tire of cleaning the rims every other day.

From what my friend (Mercedes master tech) told me, ceramic pad are good in term of bite and heat, however, they generate of lot dust, and eat through rotor quite quick.

Ceramic Pads

Are you sure you understood your Mercedes Master Tech correctly? Ceramic pads leave practically no visible dust and are not any harder on rotors than O.E.M. pads. I am running Akebono ceramics from Tire Rack on all four wheels of my 01 S500. Fronts were on new factory rotors approx 20,000 miles ago and I can still see the cross-hatch marks on the rotors. What little dust there is is a very light beige color and barely noticeable between washings, also no metallic content, no potential for rust pits on chrome rims. I couldn't be more satisfied at this point, great bite, also, no noise.

A little tip, if you use akebono, dont drive too fast, they dont perform well after 100+++. I used akebono on my 00 S500 but after 100 there was always a lot of fade. I had to replace those. If you drive below 80-90 then they are good pads but if you like to fly low, I wouldn't recomend akebono.

If you really want a serious braking solution, we have partnered with Brembo and have put together a complete package that will have your S class stopping like it should.

Brembo products are by far a superior choice in comparison with eo products. Yes they cost a little more (in the $3k-5K range for complet system) but you get the stopping power of a race car. Good pads will (to some degree) have dust coming out of them. Akebono pads like said previously are good if you dont have race like driving habits. They do have a white like dust that is not as noticeable but they work fine in everyday normal driving. Racing pads will wear your rotors quicker than ceramic pads as they bite harder. The choice is entirely up to you. Also think about replacing your lines to braided lines. Get online and do your research to determine your braking needs.
