Saw 2003 S430 at dealership
Always attempt to drive around the dealer's lot because you might find something interesting parked in the back...
I saw a silver with charcoal 2003 S430 at the Mercedes dealership in Hampton, Virginia. The fascia and lights have a new, meaner look to them compared to the smiley face of the 2000-2002 S class. Interior really didn't look much different in terms of plastic. New front seats, chrome strips along the wood, and button design, but otherwise, I would be hard pressed to find that much of an improvment. I wished MB put a different headliner on the S classes. Why not make an alcantara headliner standard on a car that costs over $70,000.00?
Standard wheel design on S430 is the standard wheels on the CL500 (five spoked star).
Still a nice looking car a few years after its introduction.

This is what makes me angry!! 45 other states have thier first shipment of S-class, but here in So. Cal. we are looking at another few days, due to certification problems!!! D@*N smog!!

You finally saw one
We have absolutely no idea when the S Class is coming to Canada....my dealer now admits that he does not know, and still has no idea when brochures will be availalbe.
So much for promising my car in August (it was ordered over a year and a half ago)!!!!!!

experience with Nappa Leather
The S 430 comes standard with the highest quality premium leather as standard. The S500 goes one step above with Nappa leather which is buttery soft. Believe it or not, the standard leather is better in every regard....as far as durability the standard leather lasts longer, as far as creases, the standard leather shows less, and as far as stain removal, the standard leather is tougher and therefore easier to clean. I have seen the interior of the S500's after 3 years and frankly the leather creases are a turn off, but the S430s seem to look better.

Well, my last S class had the Nappa leather and I swore to myself NEVER to get it again, so my S430 is standard...believe me...save the $1000 and let your interior stay better over the years...

Just FYI, in case I missed it in the
leather discussion (!?), but the new S's at our local store do have the new software/nav system. Also, new cupholders, door sill plates that look much richer, and the inproved center console/nav area. Very nice.
