Agreed. My 600 is definitely plastic(ish). Looks great and easier to keep clean than "real" chrome imho......lighter too.....and doesn't dent..... ![bs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/bs.gif)
Now that I've sold myself on the positives......it's still plastic!

I'd be very very very surprised if you were to find a metal grille that fits your car for two reasons:
1. the price would be totally insane
2. A metal grill must weigh 10 or 20 X the grilles we see today so to even stock this grille to ship would just not be cost effective for a reseller.
On a side not, I'd be excited to have a "real" metal hood or decklid.Although I haven;t put a magnet on my S, I was shocked to find that the trunk on my E was not metal.

No because in order to have a chrome grill in metal, it must be a certain type of ore which has not been used on cars in a long long time including Mercedes.

"real" metal is something that the chroming process will stick to. Or a magnet for that matter..
Yes I miss those days also....But I know they are gone so.. bye bye to real chrome grills and such...

Hmmm Did I say my trunk was plastic??? Follow the conversation if you are going to butt in... Last time I checked you couldn't post a magnet onto aluminum either... That was my point!

you said your trunk "was not metal" and i'm wondering what the hell you're talking about, i mean aluminum is metal though i have no idea what your trunk is made of i'm pretty damn sure it's metal.. and your comment about some special metal they stopped usin back in the olden days being the only metal that can be chromed (as an excuse to why MB used plastic grills) well thats just plain retarded, they could use a chromed aluminum grill or any other metal but they went the cheap route, i actually wouldn't be surprised if a 07-08 s class had a metal grill after all the flack MB took for going cheap on may things and its promise to cut the profit margin by over a billion dollars to bring back the #1 quality level they built their name on. anyways excuse my cranky approach to replying but nothing you said was logical at all

Well as it goes, cranky in gets cranky out....
This all started with a simple question about a metal grille so let's leave it a simple question about a metal grille.
It doesn't bother me at all what materials my car is made of ( well I was a little mad that my sirius antenna wouldn't stick to the trunk of my E but thats a different story.) its still the nicest car on my block.. ( in my mind...)
I'm not expecting cars to get any heavier these days so my expectation is more and more plastic...or lightweight materials in the future We'll just have to wait and see....
Finally..
This is hardly a subject to get cranky about because we can't change anything. So lighten up....Or else you might remind me of the day some cranky guy keyed my Benz when it was parked in Miami... but not the Grove though.....
