Rusted wheel lugs
2002 2430 51,000 miles extended warranty
All of my wheel lugs are rusting. I asked my MB dealer if they are covered under the MB extended warranty and they said no.
Is anyone else having the rut problem?

just noticed the same issue on a M class
im not sure if benz is plating with zinc or simply some kind of anodizing process.none of my 02-03's have had the problem yet.MB gave us a loaner M class and all four wheels had rusty lug bolts, looked like hell.id guess someone has been using a caustic/corrosive wheel cleaner that they shouldnt have.i sure would like to see some quality chrome bolts in the wheels, that would look great!.

I think the newer cars have better coasted lugs but I wouldn; bet any money on it. iT may just be that they are newer.

It's not a bad idea to replace old lug bolts. They take a lot of torque (110 ft-lb on these cars) and will stretch over time. In fact, that's why MB uses bolts and not studs with lug nuts. (Anyone who's changed a tire on a Mercedes must have asked wtf they don't use studs, which make the job a lot easier. It's so you can easily replace them.)
Rather than clean up rusty ones, I'd recommend starting with new OEM quality, Dacromet-coated lugs and painting those if you want.

mine too
I had the same problem on my 2003 S. Just got them replaced, about $20 a set, easy to do if you are considering wheel upgrades do them at the same time etc.
