Sticky Buttons on Steering Wheel
HI
My car is 2001 model year and I am finding the buttons, on the steering wheel and one that allows you to turn and scroll to the pages you want for the command system, are getting sticky.
What is thh best way to replace these without paying too much
thanks in advance

Some people have carefully scratched off the soft coating to reveal a regular plastic-feeling surface. I tried it with alcohol and went through the paint underneath. I bought new steering wheel buttons for about $240.

There was a thread in which people found you could scarpe it off with the plastic tip of a certain kind of pen, with the nib retracted of course. Do be careful not to damage the paint under the coating! Don't use alcohol and scrub hard!

Replace them for $200 or so. The rubber coating feels great, when new.
I think it was trying to clean mine with Simple Green that did mine in and made them sticky.

happens as a natural deterioration of the material used for and/or on the buttons. goo gone works really well to dislodge the goo. i followed up with 91% isopropyl alcohol and the goo gone and the goo came off easily. typical 70% alcohol sold in drug stores won't work, needs to be 90+%, also can be purchased at the drug store. now good as new!

Buy some goo-gone for $10 and some elbow-grease.
