2005 S500 4matic
Question Badge Exact Position

I had my trunk lid repainted due to some issues I had from previous owner on my car so my badges had to be removed. Now I want them back on.

Could anyone (Skylaw if you're there!) tell me the exact location of S500 and 4matic badges and distance between each letter.

Thanks in advance

A dealer may not be convenient to you - but I read just this past week that they use a template that makes proper placement of the lettering very simple and accurate.

I will try to photograph mine and photoshop the reference points and measurements onto the photos. Look for the post.

Singularity,

Below are the pics of my car, with measurements taken (in each case, along the bottom side of the lettering) as follows:

S500 - trunk edge to "S" - 2" or 5.05cm
S500 - width of lettering 6-1/2" or 16.5cm
S500 - distance above bottom edge of tail light 9-1/2" or 24cm

4Matic - trunk edge to "c" 2-1/4" or 5.7cm
4Matic width of lettering 6-3/8" or 16.2cm
4Matic distance above bottom edge of tail light 9-1/2" or 24cm.

I note the differences in placement between S500 and 4Matic. The "i" and "c" on my car look as though they may have been replaced (I bought it as a demonstrator) - it is possible that the measurements should be the same as the S500 placement.

I have photoshopped the images to make the black arrows stand out, so the colors look a bit "blown" - sorry. Click on the pictures below for larger images.

Hope it helps, and good luck.

yea I was in the same boat, should have went to the dealership like people suggested, but I thought "I could do it" lol, they are about 3/4" lower than where they should be. I feel like a total ***. If I take them do I have to buy new ones or will they re-stick??

trudawg,

I don't have the post bookmarked, but there have been at least one other post either here or on BenzWorld, on the W200 forum, where this was discussed. The type of glue to use was discussed (as was the technique for removing the letters). As I recall someone recommended dental floss - perhaps that will help you to locate the post.

Singularity noted in PM that my post was not complete, and he is correct. Here are some other measurements:

Distances between letters/numerals:

From the "S" to the "5" is 13/16 inch (2.1 cm).
Between the "5" and the zero and between the zeroes, 3/16 inch (.48 cm)

Between the horizontal bar on the "4" and "M" is 5/16 inch (.79 cm)
The space between the rest of the lettering is irregular because of the slants, horizontals, and verticals of the individual letters; do your best to make it look right within the 6-3/8 inch space.

A hair drier to soften the glue, then dental floss or fishing line gently pulled from one side to the other.
