AIRMATIC PUMP

Hey guy,

I have some question. Today afternoon I hear as something was running in my car even engine was off. It was front right side. I open hood and saw little smoke coming from there. I start car and try to raised it and it went up no problem. I shut down car and something still was clicking. I disconnected battery and connected again and clicking stopped. I decided to drive little bit and message came up " AIRMATIC VISIT WORKSHOP". After that I tried to raise car again and it didnt work. My guess it is a pump. Any ideas what it can be??? and how much it pump to replace? can I do it on my own? PLEASE HELP

Your pump has probably burned out because you had a leak that went unrepaired. The leak was most likely hairline cracks at the top of the front struts. You need to repair the leak and replace the pump and relay. It's not a cheap repair.

leak??? I checked and I didnt see any crack there at all... it is 05 model I was thinking they fixes problem with those front struts... I was thinking it is just relay that was running pump correct me if im wrong. If it would be crack car would be low and I wouldnt drive it but it is in a high position.

Leak or not, sounds like the pump is out. Hope you still have warranty.

Just make sure a qualified specialist checks for leaks. It would be a shame to lose a new pump because it "can't" be a leak. It usually is.

I had a very close call myself. Good thing is I caught mine and didn't try foooling with it or driving till it died. Turns out it was just a sticking relay and I replaced that before it took the pump with it. There were no leaks found and nothing else was bad so not problems now. Get it fixed before you screw the entire system and shell out more big bucks. I'm still under warranty.

sasha, you're getting good advice from these folks. It's relatively inexpensive to repair airmatic problems early. If you don't get your system checked by someone who really knows what they are doing with airmatic, it can go from a $45 relay replacement to a $900 pump replacement to $6000 system replacement with possible additional wheel well damage, very quickly. In addition, after repairs, it is best to have the ride height sensors calibrated (part of standard MB airmatic repair procedure), which requires a Mercedes diagnostic computer hookup.
