I also followed these instructions for my 02 S430 with even a different CD changer (part number 2028207989) and it worked with no computer reprogramming necessary! Dont go to the dealer to install this! THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR POSTS!

2000 E320 Wagon
2008, haha it is 2015 now

I just replaced my stereo deck back to original and am trying to install my CD player into my 2000 E320 wagon. I was thinking how crazy it is that I am installing an ancient CD player that I will not even use because "Who uses CDs anymore". Then I see howie's reply "CD changer. It's 2008 buddy" and I had to laugh. Well Howie, 7 years later, here is someone else doing the same thing. Guess some of us like the classics. (Hey at least it is not an 8-track).

Hey - it's now 2019 and I'm installing a CD Changer in my 2006 S430 (got it for $20 at a salvage yard)! I did this in both of my W210s, but they are getting too rusty to last much longer. The W210s were the DB2 fiber and the W220 is MOST. I assume that the fiber connections are similar - but I guess I'll find out when I do the install. Being winter it may be awhile depending on the temps.

Both of my newer cars (06 W220 and 07 W211) have the Multiple Handset Interface (MHI) so I'll be on the lookout for phone components for those vehicles. Both W210s had phones, one was the original MB Startec that I just turned off and the other was bluetooth with MB components. A special thanks to Skylaw for his help working on these cars.

D2B and MOST are absolutely not compatible. Fully different protocols and data specs. On the phone issue, you need to contact the dealer. The MHI allows for a limited selection of phones. None of the today's smart phones would connect.

Thanks bamberger. I realize they are different. If I can find the parts I would go with a wireless bluetooth solution. That’s what I put in my 02 W210 which was D2B and I only needed the right PSE, a bluetooth puck and a cable. At that time those could be obtained from the dealer. For the newer cars my hopes are that I’ll find a salvage car with most or all components and then go from there. Just reading about it seems that the bluetooth puck may be the hardest to find. At this point I’m still researching the newer MOST system which both of my newer cars have. One trip to a salvage yard with few newer MBs yielded no phone components but I did get the CD Changer.

If you are lucky, the 2006 S-Class may have an AUX-Input in the gloves compartment. If yes, you can add a BT-puck and feed your iPod or iPhone music (or any other device). If the car has no AUX-In then it becomes complicated, as the retrofitting of an AUX-In is not possible (or at least complicated). However, the before said is only the entertainment side, not the phone issue. To operate a modern smart phone you need to add a certain device (possibly BT, VISEE-O or such) which fits your MHI-interface connection, and then run your smartphone.
