MB have lost there minds!

Hello everyone.

I needed to replace my fan about 6 months back. Got one from a site that was post on here as to where to get one from. Ordered it, put in in...fine 100%. A few days ago I notice when I got out of the car, it sounded like the blades was hitting the shround.. checked it out, nope thats not it. Inspected a little more and its the spindel part (hope in saying that right) of the fan..some internal part. I went to MB when I was droping off a friends Altima (they are right next to each other) and the parts guy told me $950..and they have to order it! Now when I priced them 6 months ago, they were around $600 and some change. So now I ask my fellow 220 drivers, do you think this is correct? And where can I order another one b4 I put her up for the winter?

This price is a bit high, what will be the impact if you don't fix it?-

The price is what it is. The problem that happens with $100K plus cars when they depreciate is that the cost to buy them goes down, but the parts and service prices remain the same.

There are a number of dealers out there who do discount mail order parts. You should be able to find a better deal, but at the end of the day, it is what it is.

Do I misunderstand? You put in a non-OEM part, it failed, so you're upset that the MB part costs more? A big reason that parts costs skyrocket is currency exchange. MB takes it on the chin selling cars in the US because competition forces them to. The dollar has tanked but foreign car prices have gone up very little. They don't have to avoid passing on currency costs for parts and they don't.

Nope your reading it right...and when I ordered the part it said OEM. Just as if i was ordering glass for the car. You can go to MB and pay or go to PPG or whomever and buy the same glass that MB would order and put in your car minus the MB sticker. Even dealers sell defective parts.

Thanks for that info. Some ppl might not know that MB contract many of there parts out and the company might stamp MB on it somewhere. So when they think they are getting a part made by MB, its really made by ummm....Behr (sp) with MB stamped on it.

A difference is when you buy it from MB, the part comes with a 1-yr warranty.

Yea the one I have did too, so I will be taking it out and sending it back for a full refund next week. Funny thing is, even if I did buy it from MB, I would still have to wait becase they dont even stock them................oh let me call the other MB dealership in Illinois to see if the might have them. Thanks whover for the convo....I was too busy thinking of MB here and didnt bother to think of the one 30-45 mins away.

Honestly most dealer parts dept are a big rip off. I would like to inform everyone who gets there car service at MB Euro motor in Silver Spring, Md 9 times out of 10 your being ripped off. How do I know? The parts manager told me they over charge on parts for service.
