TPMS situation

Anybody ever have this situation.

The IP readout shows about 30psi in the front and 33 psi in the rear. I will randomly get a "check tire pressure" or "RR (right rear) tire pressure" warning.

I've confirmed the pressure with a standard gauge and its just about correct.

Is this a control unit problem or a wheel sensor?

thanks.

First, suspect a sensor; battery may be going bad. If so, best to replace all sensors. Relatively inexpensive at the Tire Rack.

You could try the TPMS system reset procedure in your owner's manual (also at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/new-...lp-i-hope.html) as well as https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w220/227693-tire-pressure-sensor-compatibility.html and http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220...4-315-mhz.html

Im still under the factory warranty, so Im going to stop by the dealer, but I wanted to get an idea if it would be a "drop it off, get breakfast, and you're done", or a get a loaner, and we'll call you tomorrow type of thing.

thanks for the info.

Don't be shocked to find out they are not covered..And Don;t buy theirs. they are more than twice as much as the same thing from Tire Rack and Discount Tire.

My TPM's have recently started sending errant signals out "alert....tire failure", etc. For some reason this usually happens during or just after hard acceleration such as entering a freeway on ramp. I just reset the sensors and chek the tires. I generaly consistant with checking tire pressure weekly on our vehicles and (my Dad was in the tire biz for 55 years) have a compressor in the garage for that purpose.

i guess it's time to look into replacements....or can the batteries be updated?

I have yet to find a source for the batteries.. but I know the units are sealed and its less work to swap them because the selant has to be picked apart to even swap the batteries.. IF yours are factory I'd replace them it seems they don't last that long. Mine went out this time last year in the summer so they seem to only have a life span of 2.5 to 3 years tops.. Maybe 2 in Oliver's case.

Actually you know what Sprink49? I have a few old one's I am going to take on apart today ans see if it can be done and what type of batteries they use. Wouldn't it be surprising to find out they can be resealed with any store bough sealant and the batteries can be purchased at Wal-Mart? We'll find out soon.. I'll keep you posted.

Show the mileage screen on your LCD. Then use the up/down arrows on the steering wheel = about 3 clicks in the down direction should bring up the tire pressures.

Well, that would explain it! I'll add it to my list of troubleshooting questions.
