AIR FILTER

It's time to change the air filter on both of my cars. 04 SL500 & 03 S500!!!!! Could anyone please post an opinion on what is the best air filter recommended for these cars on the market ? also if some would result on power increase or is just BS ? who would stay with stock MB filter?

thanks guys

MANN makes the best filters IMO. It's tough K&N's vs MANN filters I can't tell any difference between them.

K & N are good filters and can be bought at your local parts dealers. Not sure how much additional HP if any you get with these. I like them because you can clean and reuse.

Mann produce the OEM filters.

K&N don't filter as well as the standard paper filters.

Stick with the oem style paper filters from Mann.

With a N/A engine OEM will work out the best.

Just out of curiosity how were you going to help me with K&N part #'s for my car if you don't seem to know anything really about these filters?

K & N.com locate your car and find out where you can buy with the store finder option. You will need two air filters.

I put K&N's on the W220. Can't say you feel a performance difference but the motor does sound nicer under full throttle. Same deal with the SL. Judging by how flimsy the OEM filters looked, a few horsepower picked up doesn't sound too far fetched.

they are on sale for 30bucks for the pair, order 2 sets and you will be over the 50dollar free shipping limit and you will have all the clean air that engine can take in.

Yup, I heard a sound difference too under full throttle with the K&Ns. I remember taking the K&Ns out for inspection and there was oil residue left on the inside of the airbox. Since then, I've gone OEM.
