The S-Class should have come from the factory with 20 inch rims! The large wheel wells are design to accomodate dubs. Do a search and check out some members' cars like Jl88's car.

Spinning dubs are not practical in my opinion because for one main reason - they're heavy and for your S430, any additional weight will cause that "lack of power feeling" since your car is already heavy as it is.

Ride quality might be a little more rough but not that bad as you would think. However, the handling cause of the lower aspect ratio (i.e. side wall) will drastically improve. None of the tire shrieking as before with the stock tires.

apriot, you must remember that with 20" wheels, your ride quality will suffer a noticeable amount. However, ultimately, it depends on the roads in your area.

If you go from stock 16" wheels up to 20" wheels, you will notice the extra weight. Unsprung weight does suck, but that's the price of vanity.

I would just like to add...

Ride quality also depends on what brand and size of tires you are using. 245/35/20 will give you the low profile look, but the trade off is a greater possibility for dents in your rims. 255/35/20 tires will give you added cushion, but you lose quite a bit of the low profile look. Also, smaller tires give you more road noise while bigger ones absorb most of it.

In any event, if the wheels are properly balanced and placed on the car with a torque wrench and not a power wrench, then the smoothless in the ride should remain close to the same.

I have had both of the mentioned tires on my S-class. I hope this helps.

Spinning rims are heavy, like JL88 said when you go with 20's you will have alot of extra weight added to your car, even though they are higher quality rims like Brabus or Lorinser.

I have seen 255/35ZR20's on an S-class before, they looked fine. Dunlop sp-9000's have a design that makes the tire have a lower profile look compared to Pirelli or yokohama tires.

20 inch wheels on an S500

I just ordered a set of 20 inch wheels for an S500. I am going with the staggard look 20X9 up front with a 2.5in lip and 20X10 with a 4.75in lip. On the rear tire does anyone know if I can run a 295/30/20? My tire guy says I can do it, but i'm hearing conflicting answers from different people. I want the widest possible look. Also fyi I am taking the car to a body shop to get the fenders rolled, and possibly get the back of the rim machined so it will fit closer to the hub without rubbing.

295/30/20??

I disagree with you 100%.

My 20's are much lighter than the stock 18's it came with.. AND the ride I hate to disappoint you is better. I don't even realize i'm rollin' 20's unless I look.

Times have changed... WHeels have gotten much better, and tires are made to compensate for exactly the items you stated...

You put 20's on an S with the right wheel tire set-up you can not be happier.

If you consider 20's vain, what would you consider purchasing a car with a sticker of +80K that is marketed 98% as a status symbol instead of a viable luxury Not vain right?

295/30/20??
i have 285/30/r20 carlssons on mine and i think 295 would be too wide i have to roll my fenders to cuz it rubbed against the outer wheel well, and also depending on the ofset of the rim you might also need spacers (i had to purchase a pair) if you are looking for traction even 285 are plenty, hope this helps

Cool

you wont regret going with 20s. I will be selling mine soon as well. IMO dont go with spinners those are so 2002 the only spinners I see now on cars are the hubcap spinners.
