offset is

the amount of off the center line of the rim the mounting hub moves the rim either in or out towards the fenders. All you can do now since you need to move the rim in(and you can't do that) is have a shop that rolls fenders perform that procedure. And that will give you more room away from the fenders.
If it is the fender contacting the top of the tires, you need to change ride height(not cool) or change rims to get the proper offset(ET)

If the offset is not good it doesn't matter about the tires if your car is lowered, YOu still may rub.. 275 is the sure bet for the rear if you are running 20's and don't want to rub.285's will almost always rub if you are lowered regardless to your offset.

your tire is prob rubbing against that area where the bumper and fender meet. There is a large edge that can rub tire when the suspension travel upward. I had to grind that edge off my car.

Im running 20x9.5 +38 with 255-35-20. with a 5mm spacer to clear the rear brake caliper. so it is more like a +33 offset.

if you're rubbing the oustide of your wheel against the inside of your fender, the only way you'll eliminate the problem is to raise the car or to stretch a more narrow tire. keep in mind that the same offset will have a varied backspacing for different width wheels.

Offset is how rim is manufactured which keeps it flush. If you're too low when the car lowers at 80 then you'll scrub. BTW ohlords post is what offset is.

BOttom line is: you can't just throw any wheel and tire on your car and expect it to work if you are going to lower it.

A 285 is too much tire for the rear first of all, an 9.5's work much better than 10.5 DEPENDING on the wheel offset, the tire size ou choose, AND whether or not you are lowered.

It sounds like you need to change wheels or get rid of theise 285 tires if you want your problem to go away.

Yeap i wanted to get rid of it and get 20's with correct offset, but on monday one f***ing a**hole booted my car, so i paid 260$ for my parking tickets and 200$ only to unboot it. So, new wheels will have to wait
