How many cat converters on W220?

Does anyone have a diagram of what the driver side cat converter looks like on 2003 S430? Trying to source aftermarket ones to replace and most of the shops I have called will not work since the curviture of the front cat is almost impossible to replace with universal??

You have two cats on this car. its better to replace them both. if one failed, the other will soon follow. I saw a diagram on here somewhere. search AMG exhaust..

Here is is.. Look at post # 11 it's an S55 but the Cats and locations are similar

Thanks! According to the diagram, there are four cats (two per side)? Two front and two in the middle.

There are only two.. the one's up front.. then you have two resonators and two mufflers.

Based on that diagram, what is #3? I understand #2 is cat converter and #4 is the resonator.

I have received numerous input from local exhaust shop to forum members that the universal cat is a good short term replacement, but won't last long in quality. I am in a situation needing to replace my driver side cat due to rattling, but hard to get the universal cat installed from anyone. I am possibly thinking of deleting cats and welding straight pipe instead, if I can find someone who can do that.

I have called more than dozen places for cat replacement. Everyone is OEM and price ranges from $1,012-$1,600 to replace. Outrageous.

Well, doing some calling and found one CAR-X that will actually do the cat replacement with universal. I have asked if they have done any Mercedes and they told me quite a bit of MB E or S class owners came and replaced. $249 per cat. Not a bad deal. I am going in tomorrow at 5PM to get it replaced. I will update.

I finally went to the Car X in Glen Ellyn, IL. Evidently, this is a little shop who does custom mods as well!! Seem Audi's, MB's and Range Rovers up on the lift and parked.
Got the aftermarket cat installed and had the resonator deleted. $348 out the door. No rattling sound, when you punch, nice growl.... 5yr/50k mi warranty on the cat.
I asked about performance muffler and they told me they can install Magnaflow Performance exhaust for $300 out the door! I am there next week for the muffler!!

Rear Apron issue with that

Don't I have to modify the rear apron to accommodate that muffler? It seems I need to cut out sections. I was going to have them install angled tips, so I don't have to cut the apron..

Wouldnt you like to know lol

anyways no you will not need to modify the apron at all. the mufflers will sit right underneath the rear bumper about .5inch away. Ive seen it on many cars and looks good.

Cool! I will call them to order the muffler. It is just nice to have a good shop to do some of the work I always wanted to get done. My short/long goal is a wheel change as well. Always liked the AMG Monoblock III.

Found out that Magnaflow 14148 is pretty much the same quality as the 14816 but without the tip. They are going to add SS tip at no charge for doing the muffler. Total out the door is $299.00. Made appointment this Saturday at 7:30AM!!

Got the Magnaflow muffler installed

Sounds Awesome!! Not too loud and not too quite. Just perfect. As soon as my camera is available, I will record some sound clip and pictures. (My wife took the camera on her trip).
All out the door for $321.38. Magnaflow 14148 SS performance series. Currently, I have single tip, but I am going to get them replace with quad tips.
It seems the car is smoother running as well. (lost about 50lbs from the OEM mufflers).

thanks

Is it too much droning inside the cabin? Mine was and getting tired of it. I am going to experiment with ANSA mufflers. They are suppose to be very deep throaty sound but not droning like the ones I have.....
