'03+ S55 AMG Brakes on an '01 S55

Kleemann S55 AMG
'03+ S55 AMG Brakes on an '01 S55
I had my '01 S55 out for a bit of a rip-roar tonight on the highway and I was again reminded that the brakes are pretty incapable of handling the power/speed of the Kleemann supercharger. The brakes on this are really not great at all actually ... my '03 Audi S8 could stop football fields before the S55 it seems.

My question is, if I get the nicer AMG calipers/rotors fitted to the '03+ S55's are they a direct bolt-on replacement or am I going to be stuck with having to get a new spindle, etc.?

Looks like they were running the regular 4 piston fronts like the S430/500. In which case you will have to get the spindles from an '03.

I don't know... the 2003+ S/CL/SL come with AMG 4 piston calipers in the back from the factory like this 2004 S600:



Someone stole my rear brakes and slapped on calipers from a 2000 S430 on my car... so I guess they are backwards/forwards compatible.

I'm going to look up the part for the rear axles and find out for sure..

there the same,you just need to shave the rear mount or the caliper it self down a little or the part on the caliper where the pad is held in will scrap against the rotor thats what i did

guess thats where your center console went too with the rear brakes you ever change that ?

Yeah.. they took my front ones too and put on '00 S430 brakes.

So basically I just need to get spindles on the front and I can just make modifications to the factory rears to make them work, correct? Then of course the calipers/rotors/pads. I just want to make sure I know what I need before I get it on order.

did you ever find out? Im thinking about upgradeing the rears right now to 03 s55 amg brakes or 600 brakes.
