Question Very short range for lock/unlock key functions - ideas?

I'm not sure if I am the only one who experiences this, or if it's a common issue on with the W220.

I swear, I can be on the other side of the parking lot and lock my W204 C300 no problem. But with my W220 S600, I have to be literally about 5 feet or closer to the car in order for the remote to work.. both locking and unlocking.

I changed the battery in the key - no effect.. I bought a new key - no effect.

Any ideas?

German vehicles stink, will never buy again. Moved on to Toyota and BYD.
I don't know but I have a problem once in awhile where I could be next to the car and it won't detect my key.

Maybe you have the key dependant option on?

I don't have any problem either locking or unlocking from distance but the only problem is that if I want to roll down the windows, I have to be very close to infrared sensor by the door handle. I had 95 maxima and I was able to roll down the windows from atleast hundred feet but its ok I can live with that.

Jeremy Clarckson did this on TG and I have done this with my S430...it may sound strange but just place the key on the side of your head (with the laser pointing toward you head) and the key should lock/unlock the car from far away...

If I hold it under my chin it works from a greater distance, but mine isn't quite as bad as yours. I have about a 30ft range

Yes.. putting it on the side of my head with the "laser" (which is actually a little LED and not by any means a laser) or under my chin, although makes me look like a fool, works.

yes it works and makes it go farther and no its not just the height.... i experimented haha but odd how it makes a difference. I have the same issue. I guess the whole infrared unlock system just doesnt have the range of traditional?

The key transmits lock/unlock signals using traditional radio frequency. IR is for windows.

I'm glad....I thought this trick only worked for some.. I mean I don't think that Keremy Clarckson who tried this on an SL(i think) would be misleading his viewers.. well anyway I'm glad it worked for you and for all you other guys on this thread
