S430 Shift Knob Removal
Can anyone please tell me how do I get the shift knob off the shifter? I have a shifter that sometimes get stuck in Park, when I depress the brake pedal I can hear a click but I think that sometimes it does not fully release the interlock and you have to force the shifter a bit to get it unstuck, thank you in advance....

not sure, but to remove shift knob, hold the knob, twist the chrome sleeve in either left or right direction, dont remember, and then pull up. easy to do

Just a quick note to say that I tackled this job this morning, the plastic lockout piece was cracked making it stuck sometimes, I just went ahead and removed it and the aluminum piece that actually lock the shifter. The whole process took 3 hours.

Lots of people.
1) Buy a wood shift knob made for your car. Google Mercedes shift knobs, or try Performance Products, http://www.performanceproducts4benz.com/default.asp? - they have very nice ones. Many others sell them as well. You need a knob that fits on an existing shaft, not one with a shaft.
2) Remove your old shift knob as described above in this string.
3) Place the new shift knob in position, and reverse the steps you used to remove the old one.
The knob I bought is called the Avant Garde, http://www.performanceproducts4benz....dept%5Fid=6309, but there are many other styles.
