Question COMAND and TV

Does anybody have any details about using an external video source (aux) with the COMAND system. I have a UK spec car with TV. Is there a socket to hook up to somewhere?

Yes
There are two sockets on the tuner [which from memory is in the trunk hidden] fpr video inputs.

If you go to this thread

https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...&threadid=3041

Ive posted about 4th in it with an URL for a place that sells the looms you need - you need the 1201 part mentioned there

Your dealer should be able to fit them without hastle, If you are DIY minded let me know and i'll find out where the tuner is and how to get at it.

Richard,

WRT adding the TV tuner and associated wiring, how much did it roughly cost?

I have a S320, W220 and was wondering about installing the TV.

Thanks,
Fayaz

On a CLK, I think it cost me about £1500, but then I needed a load of expensive aerial amps, which the S class doesnt need.
However, I installed it myself (see www.ibex.co.uk/mbstuff ) - a significant extra cost would be MB garage labour

Check your datacard, if you have option 862 [or was it 860] then U have TV pre-wiring, and its trivial

I have a spare S class TV wiring loom with the rear-tv screen wiring in it. Happy to let you have it for half of the MB retail price if you want to get your MB dealer to add it.

PS, where in Surrey are you ?

Cheers

Looks like the only people whoare interested in this thread are in Surrey!

I am in Charlwood - just north of Gatwick.

Richard,

I live in Worcester Park in Surrey.

I don't have codes (860) TV Tuner in the front, (861) TV Tuner in the rear or (862) TV prewiring.

Will the loom that you have work without all the above codes? If so I would be interested.

I'd like to do this myself as a DIY project rather than get the dealer involved due to their monstrous labour costs. Is there a lot involved? I could then also use the video inputs.

Also, while we're talking about the COMMAND, I've also heard there are software upgrades? Mine is an early 99 car and still has the original software.

Thanks,
Fayaz

Can i join in during this installation procedure and see how to wire/plug in an aux input to my TV?

My car was registered Jan01 so do not know what software it has.

We all seem reasonably close to each other for a meeting!

Sorry, one other question - is there a master plan of all the option codes to decipher what is in/on the car?

A meet would be good, I'd like to find out exactly what I need to install the TV.

The Service Booklet should have a page stuck to the inside cover and this should list all the codes. All you need then is a New or Old price list and it has most of the option codes in there. This is how I figure it out anyway!

Thanks,
Fayaz

Hi

I have a list of the codes which I have built up over the last couple of years from pricelists, info from my dealer etc etc, perhaps I will put it up on my website (url below) in the next few days - theres a bunch of new codes [from the new SL and E class] that I want to add to it first

The loom I have is the loom that plugs into COMAND and you can then connect the TV tuner and the rear TV screen aswell. I.E Its the loom for all the options. I'll get a price from my dealer for it next time Im there and see if I can extract the exact instructions for retrofitting TV to a S class from him :-)

If you look at my www.ibex.co.uk/mbstuff that shows how I added TV to my CLK - my digital camera broke so I never got the photos I took as I did it out of it :-(

MAFF is trying to arrange a UK meet, perhaps you should add your names to the article, (I guess searching for UK meet may find the thread)

Ive remembered that Becker in the US sell the cables for connecting aux inputs to the TV tuner, I think Horst from becker just posted on the other Comand/TV thread thats in this forum

Thanks, this would be great. Once you get the price, please can you mail me offline with the price for the loom at fc@mindless.co.uk. Instructions would be wonderful as I'm sure these will have all the little parts. You must have a really good relationship with your dealer.

I'll start to get prices on the TV Tuner A220 802 15 97. Probably importing this would be cheaper.

Its 220 820 xx xx not 220 802 xx xx

Yes. buying it in Germany will be much cheaper than UK - you also need something aerial like that goes at the top of the windscreen (hidden from sight) - I'll try getting you a parts list
