Fun factor on S55

I wanted to know how fun it reall is to drive a S55? I have heard mixed opinions and wanted to hear from those who own one or have driven on hard.

Thanks

Oh yikes!! You're right! I know stklaw was telling me because he lives in the same state were you are and he was telling me that those kinds of cars (high end AMG) are rarely seen around that area. So you've checked all over your dealer and there is non??? Wow amazing! Well if you do find one i would definitely recommend taking it out for a spin. Actually come to think of it not sure if you're familiar with the MB Powertrip but i actually rode in one of those S55 and it was awsome!! The guys at the MB Powertrip drove these AMG cars with no mercy and it was a blast to ride them. That's one of the reasons why i was compelled to get the AMG versus the non AMG's. If you need more info on this MB Powertrip click here...

Hey thanks alot for the info! Yeah there are none out here I have seen a couple E55 AMG's but the biggest benz you see are S500's and occasional Cl500's. So I would like to know a little more about your ride for such a big car was it really that fun? I have heard they are a blast as well!

2000 E430
!

You think THAT'S bad? Here in Denver, i have NEVER seen a CL. The only time i have ever seen a CL with my own eyes was in Hawaii. I do occassionally see an S500, but that is maybe once every 2 months. The occassional E class is seen, but never any AMGs. Everyone out here drives a lexus or a bmw if they are in the market for an upscale car.

As for the S55, my guess would be YES take it for a drive if you ever have the opportunity. You can assure yourself that anything with a "55" on the emblem is an amazing car to drive.

Hey AmgBoy!

You're welcome! As far as the ride quality on the S55 is very nimble IMO. Almost feels the the E55 but a little bit heavier. I guess the engine on the S55 compensates for the weight of the car. So all in all it's a real true luxury touring sedan!

Every other car you see on the road here in South Florida is a Benz, and I would say for every 20 Benz's you will see one AMG.

Although i cannot tell you the "fun factor" of a S55 I can tell that I love the S-Class and I'm sure the S55 Does'nt pre form much better than my S class. I think that by purchasing a S55(although i have nothing against them) You paying the the label of it. I think that for the price you can get a s430 at lowest you could have around 40k to play around with. Now some people may prefer the prestige of owning a S55, which is fine, but i personaly think it is too over rated.Put it this way although have the tag say S55 would be cooler than S430 with 40 gran you could rig up a 430 that could own a 55 any day. I mean i would hope the portland would carry the 430. If you ever go look at one the are nice enough to fit your needs assuming that you want a benz. I mean seriously the 430 come around cheap bone stock. Then just tint windows to a little below leagal ness just give tony $20 under the table and your set to go for tint. Then put in about 5k for a bumpin system another 10-15K for some 20"s+ tires and that right theres about25 of the for you got to make up. Theen i mean its your to play around with. Hell rig some tv's behind the head rest and throw in a turbo and your good to roll. Hell if you looked around i bet you could find a S55 and AMG emblums and then just replace yours. Ill tell you know i wouldnt be able to tell. Hope this Helped somewhat if at all.

C32 AMG, Volvo S80T6
I can certainly see your point Adam

But if you have the financial where-with-all to afford it, then there is no comparing the S55 to the S430. Totally different cars although both very very nice. I just find the S55 to be such a different car to drive than any other S series sedan. There is alot more different than many may think. The engine is totally retuned.. the amenities on the interior are different and upgraded. You may be able to get lots of the AMG extras on the 430 but you will never get that beast of an engine. I think thats what its all about with AMG. If you dont want the high performance engine then get a 430 or 500, I would agree. But the engine speaks for itself... its an absolute animal. I dont think they do much to the suspension since the S class suspension is already very highly tuned. It does have lots of systems to keep it level which is so so nice. you lean into a turn at blazing speed and the car is level as a rock.

Hey guys thanks for all your feedback it really helped! I figured that the AMG was a beast but I didnt know if it was that fun to drive thanks for answering those questions! By the way I was at the Portland Auto Show last night and im not sure why Mercedes does this but they always have their S class without Sport Package (most important option I think) and it's completly stock! It just makes the car look bad I think. What about you guys?

Thanks

I agree. The sport package on both the S and CL-Class makes the car stand out of the crowd.

Think about it though...

Ok well you should notice that sport package will add more to your car. Even though you might have the money too afford them you may want to put wheels of your own on the car. Also your looking at the s class too be only sold tword the younger genre but old people also like luxurys in the car. Old folks may not like there car too look sporty and fast but more slow and luxurious. I will say that the s class looks better with a sport package but it could be that the person doesnt want to spend more if they're not even gonna use the wheels. Me for instance have 2 extra sets of wheels in my garage for my car. One set has snow tires on it but the other are just useless. For the people who dont know i drive a 02' 600 with a lorinser kit. I just purchased it within the month. Love it

Super-S, very nice car. I think I am going to get the Lorinser body kit put on my C32 when I get it. If I was not getting rid of my S500 then I would definetly get it put on that.

2004 S 600
Remember.....these (S) are heavy cars. I have had my 2001 S600 since August of 2000 and wouldn't own any other sedan. For me it's the speed/luxo combo....like no othe rcar in the world. But, whipping around....it's just not a sports car. My 2001 BMW Z8 is used for that

Yeah ill agree the S class isnt mean for touring but if you wanted a car for touring for the price of a 600 just get your self a porsche turbo. My neighbor Drives a Yellow one with gemballa option. That car is bad. Ill take one of those anyday.

Super-S, that is a very nice ride!

Never heard of anyone with an S600 Lorinser before.

What color is it? And how do you like it opposed to the "normal" S-Class?

Yeah it should be in a couple of the du Ponts. I got it for a 119,500. BUt ive added a couple of things on it like some streo stuff. The guy paid for like 3 issues of having his car in there so its should be off soon.

Super-S...where did you get that car?

Just curious, Super-S, but where exactly did you get that car? I have several pictures of that car up close if you want it since you're the new owner.

Hey guys
Yeah Super S is a friend of mine who moved away from Portland. He has the money to buy that car it's a S600 with Lorinser etc. I beleive after he bought it off of Dupont Registry or Ebay not sure what one he did engine work. Not sure though havent talked to him for a while. By the way I just picked up a CL500 I am loving it so far! Thinking of doing upgrades what do you suggest as far as engine work etc. Im not sure I want to do the whole rims and sound system thing right now I wanna do performance upgrades first. I was bumbed that I couldn't get ahold of a CL55 or S55 but oh well. Now it's the Range Rover 4.6 HSE and CL in the garage.

Thanks

AMGBOY, the S class is not a car for hard driving, my S 500 where
I installed all KLEEMANN options 1 year ago, is simply the best
"AUTOBAHN CRUISER" I ever had. Such a car is build for extreem comfortable touring use.

Slap a compressor on it, it doesen't matter if it's a 430, 500 or 55.
