Whats with all the phoney AMG S500's?
See them all the time, they have the AMG package and then they put the AMG badge on the rear of their car. It is only an AMG if it has an AMG engine.

Are you in Canada? I've read a few times that AMG appearance packaged W220s came with an AMG badge....
I have seen a few 500s round my way with the AMG badge though.

As I said previously, the AMG badge is reserved for full AMG cars only, as the badge indicates a real AMG vehicle. To see if your car is worthy of the AMG badge or not, try signing up on the Mercedes-Benz AMG Private Lounge. It requires your VIN to sign up. If you can successfully sign up with your VIN, your car is an AMG and has the right to wear an AMG badge. If you can't sign up, your car is not an AMG and does not deserve to wear the badge, regardless if it has the appearance package.

This is a controversial topic of course but in general it is not cool to misrepresent your car for something it is not.
The worst part of this silly badge add-on is that some MB Dealers are doing it too. If the car has the AMG appearance option, they stick on the AMG badge, justified by the body kit and wheels only.
IMO, MB Dealers know better and their action is simply stupid.

Yes, you guys are right. I have a S550 4matic with AMG pkg, but no badge, I won't want to have one anyway, people will think you are a liar. If you want a AMG then buy an AMG.

Aloha everyone,
Why do any of you care what someone else does with their own cars? It does not de-value your car or hurt you in any way. I have also noticed that most of the negative posts about "re-badging" are from people who do not own newer generation S
cars and yet they still think they have the best thing on the road. The rest of us S car owners/drivers are laughing at you too.
Lighten up everyone! Let's just agree that Mercedes makes some wonderful cars. If you have an S430, S500, S55, S600, 0r S63 it will only be noticible by you, maybe. 99.9% of everyone else on the road has no clue what the differences are or even mean. If someone wants a "clone" there is nothing wrong with that.
Take care, Steve

True! To each his own, but misrepresenting your car is just not cool and goes against proper car etiquette. I think that is all people are saying.
BTW, the G in my AMG badge was falling off, so I went to my MB Dealer to buy a replacement last week. The Parts guy was polite but wanted to make sure I am not just putting on an AMG badge on a regular MB, asked for the type of car, model, etc. in a nice way. I assured him I had an AMG with a smile. I just thought it was interesting that they are sensitive to this issue.
