Rear child locks

Rear child locks
Not had many people in the back of my W220 but when we come to a stop then cannot exit from the back seats unless I press the unlock button on the dash.
I looked through the manual and cannot see any reference to rear locks specifically although there is mention of limited some rear passenger functions (windows and the like). I also opened the rear doors themselves as most British cars, including my father's W220 IIRC, had a little switch which allowed you to control this function. No luck on my car.
I did a search, both here and on Google, but couldn't find anything specific to the W220.
Assistance would be greatly appreciated!

On the driver's side, between the front window switches and the rear ones, is a button or switch (depending on model year). In one position it deactivates the back door handles, back seat window switches, and rear cigarette lighters.
It is described in my manual as the "Override Switch For Rear Passenger Compartment" under the general heading of "Safety and Security." Here's what it looks like in my car:

Thanks!
I'll give that another go. I thought I'd tried it but the manual didn't mention that button affected the rear door locks, just a couple of other functions.

Had the same problem on our S430 & found you can scroll through the settings in the console to have the car lock all doors automatically after startup with either "Y" or "N", choose the no setting & your passengers don't have to wait for you to use the unlock button or open your door to unlock all.

That's weird, when someone opens the front door, all doors unlock. Have you tried making sure you press the automatic lock button on the console in front of the sunroof? That might be the cause.

If you think the door contact switch that controls whether the interior lighting remains switched on or off is "the automatic lock button", thats really weird. See page 160 in your S class operator's manual.
In my S430, if I scroll through the "settings" menu & set the automatic locking to Y, all 4 doors will lock automatically at approx 9 mph & stay locked unless I use the lock/unlock button on the dash or stop the car & either front door is opened to release all locks. This is not a problem when the grandkids are in the back seat, but adults seem to get antsy waiting for me or the front passenger to release them, so I just set the automatic locking to "N" for most of the time since I still have the option to lock all doors with the dash button.
