creaking sound in front

for a few days I've noticed when unlocking the car with the remote, the car seems to have a creaking sound coming from the front end, and when locking the car again the creaking sound is there. but don't notice when driving. I had some work done last year for the same problem. Is it possible this could happen every year on this car? it's an 02' with 72k.
thanks for the help!

Check the ball joints for integrity. Evidence of their failure often first manifests as creaking/popping when the suspension makes its attempt to right the car upon lock/unlock or even under light braking. W220's munch on ball joints like candy......especially cheap units that may or may not be labeled "OEM." Buy from a reputable dealer either online or in person and demand a copy of what came on the car. I cannot remember the original supplier right now but it ain't TRW. Those last.........about a year! You might have gotten a dose of their extreme quality at your last service.

Definitely sounds like ball joints. Mine started like that a few weeks back then this week horrible sounds when turning. I think the squeaking may have been going on longer and I blocked it out hoping I was hearing things.

Went into mechanic today and driver side shot. Going to just replace upper, lower control arms and all components so I'm not dealing with it for a while. Putting reconditioned Arnot struts in while he's in there to save a little labor later (have really small leak on one side)...$4k

These should take care of all the typical issue for my car so at 58k miles I hope I get to enjoy the car for long bit.

had the car at Lakeview Mercedes for a week, they heard no sound and told me to leave it alone until the sound comes back and is more constant. (car was there for a week because it rained a few days and they wanted the car to be dry) had the engine mounts replaced along with the tranny mounts and a few other minor things done including an oil change for about $1,800.00 (got off cheap this time)

Can't scan invoice but here is the breakdown (minus oil change, tax, etc)

Went to argue parts costs then realized it's all labor (indy got better pricing than I found online and better quality on parts). Don't have the means or knowledge to DIY so must take it up the ...well, anyway I do love the car...but she makes it harder to love her all the time.

parts

labor

Lower Control Arms

$359.90

$220.00

Lower Ball Joints

$131.98

$660.00

Strut Arms

$399.90

$165.00

Inner Tie Rod

$65.96

$198.00

Front Struts (Arnot)

$797.96

$165.00

4 Wheel Allignment

$109.95

Shipping (Struts)

$85.00

$3,358.65

Thanks for making me feel better

Got him to knock off 20% of the total labor so paying $1126 for this job. My raitionale is that at the dealer I would pay more for parts and the struts alone would cost more than the entire job if I wasn't doing reconditioned so saving some place...at least it helps me sleep at night.

Yea because I payed $200 labor for my ball joints and they are further than the arms meaning you can install the lower arms before you reach the ball-joints, they take the longest.

Also I thought strut arms and front struts were the same unit.
