Dashboard Lights Gone, Cannot Open Trunk
Hello guys. I am new to this forum and just wanted to post my problems here. Today, I was about to go to work and I turned on the engine of my year 2000 S430. Usually, once the engine is on, the dashboard lights would go on immediately. However, the lights of my dashboard did not go on today. It was completely black without any lights. As a result, I was not able to go to work. Additionally, I am also not able to open up my trunk with my keys. Can someone help me on this issue. How to approach this problem and how may I try to solve it? Thanks.

did the car start and run, or did it not even start up?
you can open the trunk with the blade key, its a bit tricky though if theres no battery power. You have to turn the key without pressing inward

Yes. The car starts and engine is running, but the dashboard lights are off. I used the blade key to open the trunk, but it would not open. I don't understand the correlation between the trunk and the dashboard lights. Any other suggestions as to where the source of the problem is? Thanks.

I don't know if the two are related. However, you need to get your instrument cluster seen by a dealer before the 10-year extended warranty (from initial date of service) runs out. See post 58 at https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...removal-2.html
